Comment on too many questions in my head

  1. I've reread this so many time but never got around to review bc I binged so badly. I just,,, never stopped.
So, here's the review after who knows how many rereads:

"Actually, it was closer to Haibara when he'd done something particularly stupid."
Thats- I can't tell if that's a compliment or??? I think it is,,

"The man at the door relaxed minutely, though something caused him to shift unconsciously into a military parade rest. Interesting, thought Conan. He still sees me as a threat.

...It was somewhat gratifying, actually. He was so used to being immediately discounted because of his size and apparent age that it was a nice change of pace to be automatically considered dangerous."
John's Senses ™ kick in!! Poor Shinichi tho. Even if he's in a dangerous situation, someone seeing him as a threat is amazing to him. Point to Traaaaauma!

"So Sherlock had finally found his Watson. Good for him. What were the odds of someone named after a character in a book finding someone with the same name as their in-book partner, though? "
When I first read this, this particular line threw me off. It took me a second to realize that you were implying that the books ran alongside the BBC Series.

"The last time Conan had been there,"
This also threw me off. It's going to be a rough time, buddy, if you've been here already.

"The most interesting piece of information, however, was that Sherlock was actually respecting the boundaries set by his roommate."
Dw, Shinichi, everyone is confused and intrigued by Sherlock respecting John.

" "Afghanistan or Iraq?" he blurted before he could stop himself."
    you stUPID-
God, he really can't function without coffee

"This was starting to become a survival mechanism, acting cute. That might have some repercussions when - when, not if - he had his body back."
Oh, it definitely will. The School Trip Arc was definitive proof. He "al-le-le?"ed the police. It was simultaneously the best and worst thing to watch.

" "Wrong," Sherlock muttered under his breath, then looked thoughtful. "Hm. Half wrong."

John looked at him for a moment, bewildered. "How can someone be half wrong?"

"Just look at his shoes!" "
Oof, Sherlock's catching up. Also, Sherlock, sweetie. No. The shoes don't prove anything. There's a million things that could lead to them. If they look used, then they could be handle downs (if he recognizes them as Shinichi's then Conan can fire back with "hand me downs").

"Conan gritted his teeth silently. Yes, it was obvious to a detective, but children asked obvious questions, and he was trying to stay in character."
I?? Kinda want to see more condescending Sherlock?? Mostly cause Shinichi is trying v hard but, I mean, it's Shinichi. He always has a hard time.

"Besides, he trusted Sherlock Holmes almost as much as Hattori. Why was he letting his paranoia get the best of him?"
Bc it's S h e r l o c k. He's,, kind of a brat and who knows what kind of research he'd like to conduct. Also?? He doesn't have as clean as morals as Shinichi. Shin-chan refuses to let anyone die, he's stopped people from suiciding. Meanwhile, Sherlock essentially stomped on the cabbie's wounds for info.

"John snapped his fingers triumphantly. “Kogoro Mori! That's it.”

Conan winced internally at his accent. Just. Ugh."
Fun fact, I'm so used to Mori's name, that I had to have someone else read his name out loud. I just couldn't imagine the incorrect pronunciation.

" “Yup, that's Occhan! He's the best detective in Tokyo.”
    [...]
Sherlock rolled his eyes. “Wrong.” "
Oh? He doesn't think he's the best detective? Wishful thinking dictates he kept updates on Shinichi and considers him to be the best. Which, I now realize, wouldn't help Conan blend in so,,,

"Honestly, if he hadn't personally met the guy, he would say that this sounded like something KID would try to pull. But given that KID had some modicum of an idea that he had a secret identity, he wouldn't purposely try to ruin it.

    (Hopefully.)"
Listen, although I like Kaishin, I couldn't care less if that's what this fic is. I'm just happy at the subtle suggestion that Shinichi trusts KID to some level.

"Wait, was retrospective thinking rare in seven-year-olds?

    Probably. Shit."
Ha, Shinichi is just such a Mess rn and I'm loving it.

"Sherlock ignored him, as he was wont to do, focusing instead on Conan, who realized belatedly that he was probably being turned into a Case.

    Which. Wasn't necessarily good."
Big oof, Sherlock will divide his attention 50/50 on these cases. Conan'd in trouble as a Case.

"Wow, the police actually come to you with the cases? They don't just turn up wherever you go? What a luxury."
RIP to Shinichi. That's the trauma talking right there. But also, damn, it really is a luxury here, huh.

"Sherlock looked intrigued, which John seemed to catch out of the corner of his eye. “Sherlock, you are not taking a seven-year-old to a crime scene. That's a terrible idea.” "
It's Sherlock, ofc he's thinking of that. Which could've work in Shinichi's favor if John wasn't such a Dad.

" “It's not like an English murder is going to be different enough to permanently scar him.” "
Comparing the scenarios, no, in fact, they'll prolly be tamer.

" “The Case of the Mysteriously Appearing Primary Schooler. That should be a good enough title for your blog.” "
The Sherlock Sass™ coming in hot.

"Conan waited for about five whole seconds before scampering down the stairs after them, just slipping into the taxi before John shut the door."
Sorry John, there was just no chance of Conan staying, ever. Ask Ran, she'll rant all abt it.
