Absolutely gorgeous and beautifully written. It’s rare to find ‘out-of-the-box’ (as I call it) Byleth fics where she’s still getting to grips with her emotions or understanding people around her. You captured her never ending curiosity well, and it’s quite nice that you also show Claude as someone who respects her differences. Really shows that he practices what he preaches, so to speak.
FEW is an interesting world to play with because Byleth is coming to Claude after he’s already established himself (and royally mucked up because she’s not there to bounce ideas off) so there is a greater degree of needing to help her, rather than the other way around and I think you catch that nicely.
thank you loveeeeee im so glad you enjoyed it! and im happy i portrayed both of them well! and yeah it’s definitely a different dynamic to explore! thank you <333333
Indeed. One of the staples of the Claudette dynamic is how they stay relatively on equal footing even when one technically outranks the other (i.e. they don't really act like a teacher/student, like, ever in FE:3H and maintain a mutual bond in VW). Whereas in FEW:3H, Claude's lack of direction essentially landed him in a position where it's hard for him not to be seen as taking advantage of Byleth, even though in his heart, he doesn't see her as a subordinate.
I like how you did that very subtly, btw. He doesn't like her using his title, in part because I guess he doesn't, especially like that he had to become a king, but also because he does want her to view their bond as so unbalanced. You did something similar in another fic I read, I think. It's very good.
