The person who translated this sentence for me is of Mexican origin, so I'm thinking there are two possibilities - either this is how the sentence would be said in Mexico, or she didn't fully understand the context when she did the translation. Either way, I'm okay with it, because in the end Riley isn't a native speaker and his comment doesn't need to be 100% error-free. :-)

In my opinion the phrase is perfect as written. I like asumir better than suponer in this context. Asumir in the sense of take for granted or take as a fact. And in this context and use of asumir, habla is the correct conjugation. I am also an Spanish native speaker :) It is true however that different countries have different constructions sometimes.
