This chapter is gold! (I’m sorry I missed the comment on the last chapter. I’m reading on tye stairmaster and my hr is 160 with this man.)
The extra color to Monae and her personality is really important! I think you’ve seen her this way all along. I never got her until now. Really really got why Rio loved her. He likes women like this. But what he did to Rhea… The ways he breaks her over and over puts into context who you’re showing us he is. Every glimpse, every chapter, he’s getting clearer. You know, I kinda feel like I’m going through it the way Rhea did. First his charm making me love him, then the res flags making me doubt him, then the cruelty that comes out so subtly that I almost feel sorry for him having to feel those feelings. But it’s already too late. He’s already got me. I see Rhea so hard. She’s fully dependent on him. And he’s taking everything about her for granted. He’s doing the gestures he does, but he doesn’t know how to love. Or how to recognize or value love. It’s easy to love a ghost. Especially one so intricately tied to his loss of innocence. Him mourning Monae is him mourning the loss of his childhood, his betrayals, his parents. What if he would have told Rhea NOW what he tried to tell har later, when it was already too late? What of he would have woke her up, let her hold him, opened up to her. She would have ended the world for him. Good thing I’m all sweaty. No one can tell I’m crying at the gym.
