I wish you good health so that never happens again.

I once, not actually that long ago, had a strange 5 week long sickness that made it SUPER difficult to breathe at times. For a time I wondered if maybe I developed asthma, because it got that hard to breathe. I would cough endlessly for times, then maybe be fine for an hour or two before it hit again.
I had that awful stomach lurching feeling every time I wheezed for air during a fit, and did throw up several times. Perhaps not that similar to your instance, but I still very much get what it's like to be terrified and panicking because nothing like this has ever happened before.

My only guess was that my 5 week bout of whateverthatwas, was environmental? At that time, we had flooding problems with our downstairs bathroom, and my bedroom was right across the hall from the flooding area, so I guess there might have been mold and mildew in the air?

    Anyways~

Oh, yeah, especially if there was black mold. If it came and went with the flooding that was probably it. A lot of people have allergic reactions to black mold especially (or it could just be a mildew reaction; I do not know what might’ve been growing in your downstairs bathroom) and those can cause nasty respiratory issues.

        Yeaah
It started to taper off around the same time as I began sleeping upstairs on the couch for a while.

It's weird cause this had never happened before, plus I see black mold around windows and windowsills daily, and live in a damp environment where that stuff is just a constant battle.
Suddenly getting sick like that, and so severely, and for such an extended time..
        o-o
Not fun, not to mention very out of the blue. I think I first got sick around 2 whole weeks after the flooding problem had been persisting.
[Due to stupid insurance issues, and trying to figure out who's responsible for funding the repairs- ugh]
