Chapter Text

Usually, Mazikeen loved when the sun started to set in the skies, it gave the promise of the wonders of the nightlife that Los Angeles offered; Orgies, alcohol, drugs. The night was when the demon thrived, she always had since she had came to earth.

As the sun set on the Los Angeles horizon, Mazikeen wanted nothing to do with the Nightlife, she would rather see the sun stay in the sky a few more hours, give her time to mourn.

Her two best friends; the Devil and the small child he promised to protect, ceasing to exist within hours of each other. Both by the same human who loved them, or said she loved them. Somewhere in the back of her mind she grew angry with Lucifer, who should have known better than to give a human a celestial object, miracle or not. They should have all seen the madness within her eyes.

A blinding rage builds up, as she turns and punches the stone wall behind here. The tv screen that had been mounted on the wall falling and shattering onto the floor of the penthouse. Maze watches the screen for a few moments, before she bangs her hands against the stone wall once again, letting out a scream of a pain she fully didn’t understand. The sword she had thrown into the wall above her did not fall.

Was this what the feeling of lost felt like? What humans felt when they lost someone, they were close to?

They had moved Lucifer’s and Trixie’s bodies into the former’s bedroom. Laying the two bodies onto the bed. Cerberus guarded the bedroom, protecting the two bodies inside. (Well, Maze had moved the two, Amenadiel had taken Chloe down to the wine cellar and locked her up). Cerberus was still hurt as he patted around the penthouse, but he was still a Guard dog at his core; and Maze knew that hound would sacrifice himself for ones laying behind them.

Somewhere, in the back of her mind, she remembers the first time she had met Lucifer’s hound. She had been training under the devil himself, training to become his personal bodyguard as his own had been sent to earth as a “earth consultant”. She remembers meeting this puppy who’s tail wouldn’t stop wagging when it saw its master. That was early in their agreement, long before humanity had started vilifying the devil’s name. She remembers moments back when Lucifer was just learning how to be Hell’s king. When Lucifer still wasn’t sure of himself and more often than not wondered the halls endlessly.

Maze still remembers Lucifer having this shadow of a wolf follow the king. Something to guard the gates, something that couldn’t work inside the hell loops. Maze remembers the devil being dragged by this 3 foot hellhound by a rope that was being held on by a string. The angel’s wings folded close to his back as he dug his heels into the cobblestone floors, trying not to run into the pillars and corridors walls that lined the hallways as the hound ran. It was giving the fallen angel a run even with his celestial power and strength.

“Cerberus! Stop!” At that, the Dog stopped in his tracks, making the fallen angel fly forward at the sudden stop. Lucifer had ran face first into one of the pillars; the full force making the pillar crack and crumble. She remembers the unamused look the devil gave his dog. “Oh! Now you listen!”

She laughs softly as that memory flashes through her vision. Tears roll down her face she didn’t know were there. She hated these emotions.

Not to mention the little Hellion who’s smile Maze will never see again. Trixie was an innocent who was caught in the middle of a cruel game of fate not of her own. Of choices that weren’t hers to make, or did she have any say with them.

Mazikeen wasn’t even sure if the child knew the truth about Lucifer; or about his unspoken promise to protect the child.

“I’d do anything to protect that little human! Dad be Damned!”

It had been his promise since the day Malcom had taken her from her school as a pawn against her mother. The unspoken guardianship Lucifer put over Trixie against the forces of the supernatural, celestial, and infernal in nature. It’s why Cain never kidnapped her after he broke up with Decker; why the demons didn’t dare come close to the human child.

Lucifer wasn’t merciful; he could be a big hearted, lovestruck angel when he wasn’t focusing, But he was the King of the infernal domain for a reason.

He was the king of the damned and guilty for a reason.

Maze looks to the balcony as she hears the tall tale sound of an angel landing and folding their wings. She sees pitch black wings fold behind the figure, before he steps into the penthouse. Realizing who it is, she grabs her knives from her pocket, moving across the floor. Her blade meets his neck, as his eyes look unamused down at the demon threatening him.

“You shouldn’t be here.” Mazikeen growls. “No one wants you here, Michael. Go home.”

“Oh, you mean the infernal domain who sent me here? Or the silver city who probably misses its prince?”

Confusion crosses Maze’s face as she looks up at the archangel. “I thought Lucifer said you were taken to the Silver City.”

“Well, I think Amenadiel had other plans. Now, where is my idiot brother?” Michael steps around the demon, before walking deeper into the penthouse. She watches as Michael looks around, seeing Cerberus guarding the entryway to the bedroom. “I see Cerberus found you.”

“You sent him?”

“I told Hell to find me a demon to find you; Cerberus is who it brought to me.” Michael looks deeper into the bedroom, seeing the two bodies on the bed. His breathing hitches as he realizes who’s they were. “Who did this?” His voice is unnerving to the demon; it reminds her too much of how Lucifer was before he lost his control.

“Michael-“

“Who did this, Mazikeen?” He turns to face her. She can feel the power of fear radiating off the archangel. “You know, don’t you? You caught them when they killed the child! Don’t you want revenge for the pain the child went through?”

“It was Decker.” Mazikeen states, looking the archangel in the eyes.

“And where is she now, Mazikeen?” There’s a grin forming as a sparkle twinkles in the archangel’s eyes, if Mazikeen didn’t know any better, she would state that it was the hellfire that burned behind the angel’s eyes.

“Downstairs, with Amenadiel in the wine cellar.” Mazikeen grins, meeting the archangel’s eyes once again.

“Well, let’s go deal with her first.”

Emotions were not the Demon’s strong suit, but punishment, oh, punishment, Mazikeen could do.

Lucifer sat in the vast empty universe. He had been dozing in and out of consciousness for the past while. White wings were stretched behind him, as his hands held the newly celestial soul.

It had taken a lot of power from Lucifer, to the point he’s pretty sure he passed out once he actually sat down. He had walked a bit from his siblings and the other human souls, just in case his own powers went out of his control.

He looked at the soul inside his hands, the cracks had mended themselves with the feather that was absorbed into the soul, slowly changing the soul it was offered to. Lucifer just hoped the Urchin wouldn’t hate him once she was strong enough.

She had to make it; Lucifer couldn’t lose another being he loved.

“What’s your name?”

“Lucifer.”

“Like the Devil?”

“Exactly.”

Memories of their first meeting flashes through the devil’s mind, as a small sad smile forms on his face. He wasn’t too sure if the little human fully believed what he said, if she fully believed he was the devil.

Anger had festered in the back of his mind. His protection should have warned whoever was close by of her being in danger. He couldn’t believe how Stupid he was to trust the detective. He should have noticed the changed, he should have taken it back to the silver city where the blade would lay rest with Samael’s memory.

It’s not your fault. There’s no way you could’ve known what the human was going to do.

Lucifer closed his eyes, hearing the voice in his head. He didn’t answer the voice. His focus shifts back from letting his mind wonder to the soul in his hands, he gives a soft sad smile, before he could speak the soul moved out of his hand. Lucifer watches as slightly off-white wings wrap around the soul as an outline of a child appears within them.

“…Lucifer…?” Her voice is so quiet in the universe, but it makes the devil tear up at the sound of the Urchin’s voice.

“I’m here, Beatrice.”

Wings uncurl around her new form, she’s shorter than what she was on earth. “…What happened…?”

“Oh, my dear sweet child….” He knew this was going to be hard to explain, he watched as she looked behind her own shoulders seeing the two wings now behind her. Lucifer can’t tell what emotion flashes across her face. “Tell me, what you do you remember?”

Beatrice looks to him a little confused, before looking away. Her eyes unfocused as she tries to remember. “I just got to the penthouse, I asked mom and you if we could get pizza. I looked up from watching a video on my phone and-“ Tears form in her eyes. “And I saw you! You were laying on the floor and I yelled at mom that she hurt you and that was bad! And- and she grabbed the blade that had blood on it and came towards me! Next… Next I knew I saw Maze and big wolf hound thing when the elevator opened and the wolf tackled mom. Maze and Chloe were yelling and the dog came over and laid beside me even though he was hurt.”

“….Cerberus.” Lucifer opens his arms for the child, Trixie didn’t waste any time hugging the devil as he wrapped his wings around the child. “He’s my hellhound, he probably realized I’m your guardian devil and deemed it his job to make sure you felt safe as you… passed.”

Trixie buried her face into Lucifer’s shoulder as she started to sob. Lucifer tightened his arms around her in comfort, holding her protectively as she cried. No child should ever have to go through that pain, especially from their own parents. She had just lost Daniel and now she’s lost everything she’s ever loved, everything she’s ever known.

Beatrice didn’t deserve this fate; no one did.

“Lucifer…?”

“Yes, Urchin?”

“What did you do? Maze mentioned that my soul was cracked but it doesn’t feel cracked anymore. You did something, didn’t you? That’s why I have wings right?”

“Yes, Beatrice. That’s correct, I did something and you can hate me if you want but I couldn’t- I couldn’t lose another one I cared about.” I couldn’t lose someone I cared for again. “I used one of my feathers to mend your soul, I used Samael’s power of will to make it mend itself, but in doing so your soul absorbed the feather, making you, well, an angel.”

“An…angel?” Confusion and awe lace her voice, her eyes look up to lucifer with wonder, but he can see the sadness that is deep within her brown eyes. “Like you?”

The Devil gives a nod. “Yes, like me. It was the only way Uriel could predict your soul would be okay.”

“…Where are we?”

“This is a blank universe, I guess that blade didn’t kill souls like what we believed.” He watches as the once human looks around into the darkness. “It seems it had more power within it that what I thought it did.”

“So, what about the place we came from? What about home?”

Lucifer opens his mouth, but closes it. He hugs the kid once again, who didn’t seem bothered by the devil’s hugs. “My stars will learn their Lightbringer is gone, if Cerberus is already on earth that means Hell is already looking for its master. With Dad gone, that universe has no being of Will and Michael as the other half of the Demiurge can only do so much….”

“And what does that mean?”

“It means dear Urchin. That universe will fall without the power of Will.”
