Chapter Text
Inspekta slithered as close as He dared to the last God, avoiding any physical contact with Him. He looked Him over, taking in His wounds and disheveled appearance with a wide smile. He looked at His hands, noting the frost that clung to His fingers and white knuckles. All four of His hands were, ever so slightly, trembling.
He was so close.
“Yew mus’ be so cold…” He whispered, leaning in close to speak into Thespius’ ear. He tilted His head, putting on an almost sympathetic expression as He asked, “why don’ yew jus’ leggo? Nobody would blame yew if yew did.”
Thespius was forced to look into Inspekta’s swirling eyes as He moved into His field of vision. He barely reacted, save for a slight flinch as the God snapped His sharp teeth in His face as He smiled.
“Poor Despius…God’a Silly Love Songs an’ Mirt’, eh? What did dat do for yew in dis sitch-e-ation?” Inspekta paused, turning His head and placing a hand to His ear, acting as if He were waiting for Thespius to answer Him. When the God remained silent He snickered, shaking His head. “I’ll tell ya! Nuttin’!”
Fresh tears were pulled from Thespius’ eyes. He was so tired and His body ached everywhere. He could feel His grip on the Rift loosening…
“Jus’ let go, dood. Jus’ let go and yew kin be wiff Clicky again,” Inspekta urged, making His voice sound soft and gentle once more. He spoke as if He were comforting a grieving family member. “I know yew wanna be wiff Dem. Nobody would blame yew for lettin’ go.”
Thespius’ lips started to move.
Inspekta perked up at this. The God had not spoken in several weeks since holding onto the Rift. “Hm? Yew got some’fing ta say?”
“…I…” Thespius croaked, His voice hoarse from disuse.
Inspekta blinked, noting the way Thespius’ trembling had increased, along with the fresh tears that filled His eyes and were pulled away by the Rift. Immediately the God slithered back, keeping a safe distance from Him.
“I…want…Clicky!” Thespius wailed, arching His back.
And then He let go and was swallowed by darkness.

Thespius woke up choking and gagging, His hands clawing at the clouds surrounding His body. He lay on His stomach, unable to get up as He dug His shaking fingers into His clouds, clawing into them in blind desperation. The clouds were black, soaking wet to the touch as they poured their contents out all over HobbyHoo. “Clicky! I want Clicky!” He screamed, His eyes unfocused and seeing nothing. Lightning streaked across the sky, the thunder’s deep rumbling filling His aching head.
“Clicky! Click..!”
“‘Thespius!’”
Familiar hands cupped His face. The God had changed His size in His slumber, becoming the same height as when He had been mortal. Thespius looked up, hiccuping through His tears as He looked up into Click Clack’s worried mask. He burst into fresh tears, pressing Himself against the other God, finding comfort as He felt Click Clack’s beating heart against His head.
Click Clack winced as down below HobbyHoo was drenched in the sudden thunderstorm Thespius’ nightmare had created. They had left Their home as soon as They saw the clouds changing, urging all of the mortals to get into secure shelters before going to comfort Thespius through one of His meltdowns. They had lessened over time but there were still moments.
“‘Shh…’” Click Clack rocked back and forth, holding Thespius close as They started to narrate. “The Storytelling God was here. They would always be here for Their beloved. All Their love needed to do was focus on breathing. He was doing such a good job focusing on His breathing. The clouds around them were already starting to cease their downpour. Nothing down below had been destroyed. Their people were safe from harm. All Thespius needed to do now was breathe…”
Click Clack matched Their breathing with Thespius’, guiding Him into slowing down little by little. Soon the hands that clung so tightly loosened and Thespius shifted, nuzzling His face into the crook of Click Clack’s neck where it met Their shoulder.
“I’m sorry,” He whispered as the clouds slowly turned white once more around them.
“Thespius had nothing to be sorry for,” Click Clack assured Him, continuing to rock and play with His hair. Some of the flowers fell out, killed by the sudden and intense emotional stress.
“…are the people safe?” Thespius whispered, forcing Himself to sit up so He could look at Click Clack.
Click Clack smiled sadly, nodding Their head. “The mortals were safe. Tents could be set up once more and none of the proper structures had been damaged. Tonight the fields and flowers simply received some rain to help them grow.
“But now the God had to wonder; what had caused Thespius so much distress?” Click Clack asked, cleaning Thespius’ face.
“…I dreamt that I let go,” Thespius confessed, fresh tears spilling down His cheeks at the very thought. The clouds around them started to softly rumble, threatening to start darkening again as smaller ones formed around Thespius’ head. “I wanted to see you so badly I let go, Clicky! I..!”
Click Clack pulled Thespius into a kiss. It shocked the God out of His spiral, the clouds around His head vanishing as the others became still once more. When the kiss ended the two looked at each other and then Thespius kissed Click Clack again, pressing their bodies together as if to become one God out of two.
“‘You didn’t let go,’ Click Clack reminded Thespius between kisses, wiping away the tears that continued to flow. ‘You must remember that you didn’t let go.’”
“I didn’t…” Thespius whispered, sniffing softly as the rest of His tears were kissed away by the other. He allowed Himself to be guided to lay back down, using Click Clack’s lap as a place to rest His head. “I wanted to see you so badly but I didn't let go.”
“The small God could only smile sadly, stroking Their lover’s face and hair, soothing Him back to what would hopefully be peaceful slumber. He had been so brave and strong and now it was His turn to rest and be taken care of by others.”
The two Gods remained like that for the rest of the night, making sure that they were always touching each other as a reminder that they were together again and would never be apart.
