Chapter Text

Emilia stood silently at the door; she was hesitant to open or even knock on it. For this was Subaru’s bedroom.

Frankly, Emilia had no idea what to do at the moment; all of the things that led up to this weren’t even her choice.

Emilia was a Royal Candidate for the kingdom of Lugnica, a country without a leader and desperately trying to recover. As one of the chosen Dragon Priestesses, Emilia was also a candidate for the seat of the queen.

However, the first meeting of all the Candidates ended in disaster—although it was mostly Emilia’s fault, she thought. When one of the nobles insulted her, she had been unable to control Puck—her trusted contracted spirit—making her father figure slaughter many important members of the kingdom, even a member of the Sage Council at that.

Quickly after, everyone saw her as a monster who used strength and violence to rule the kingdom. Others who had different opinions still thought she was unstable and unfit to be queen.
Such betrayal from someone who was like a father to her broke Emilia’s heart. Being under his protection for far too long, Emilia was lost; she was unsure about what to do. Her wish to unfreeze the elves was now gone.

Worse, it seemed like it was all planned out by none other than Roswaal, her sponsor for the Selection. The person who promised her that they would get the dragon’s blood to cure the elves now also played a hand in the contemptuous plan.

But it wasn’t the end of the insanity that Emilia endured. Soon after what happened, the Witch Cult—a terrorist organization that worshipped the Witch, a powerful and fearsome monster that Emilia was often compared to—seemed to seek her life, not as a way to worship but as a disgrace.

The flee was cruel and brutal. The only reason Emilia was even alive was because of Subaru: someone who had saved her before during the loot house incident. Then, he joined the mansion as a butler and continued working there until everything fell apart. Subaru had managed to save Emilia and Rem from the vicious grasp of the Sin Archbishop of Sloth…but that didn’t mean there was no sacrifice.

Ram, Rem’s twin sister, and the people of Arlam village had all perished, and Emilia knew it was all her fault.

If she hadn’t accepted joining the Royal Selection, all those people could have been safe.

If she could control Puck better, maybe the fallout that happened wouldn’t have been this severe.

If she hadn’t been born, maybe everyone could have had a better life.

But she still wanted to believe that someone could care about her, like Puck. And what? He also betrayed her dearest wish as well, just because of his emotions and a half-baked plan.

Now she was in hiding with Subaru, Rem, and Felix, the blue-haired knight whom Subaru saved from the battlefield.

All of this made Emilia unsure if she even wanted to leave. All she had left now was Subaru, but she knew that no one would ever care for her the same—no one. He already had Rem.

But then Felix told Emilia about it—how to make children. She didn’t understand why he said it at first, but Felix said that it would make Subaru love and care for her.

Was it true? Or just a lie again?

Despite that, however, Emilia didn’t want to do it. She didn’t want to use her condition to burden him even further. No one would ever care for her, but why did Emilia still wish she didn’t need to use such a method for Subaru to care about her?

She didn’t know. Thus, she ended up here.

Gathering her determination, Emilia knocked lightly on the door.

Seconds passed—silence. And then, a voice rang out.
“Who’s there? I’m still awake.” Emilia took a short breath, her heart thumping in fear.

“Subaru… It’s me. Emilia.” Emilia muttered; she started to regret her decision.

“Oh! Come in, Emilia-tan. I’m glad to see you here.” The nickname made her chest warm just a little. She opened the door.

And there was Subaru, her savior—her friend? She didn’t know. But he was reading something, maybe a merchant paper or manuscript; he had taken up quite a few jobs to take care of the group’s financial problems.

“Hi, Emilia-tan! Just sit on the bed. I’ll finish the report for the Suwen family right there.” Emilia heard him and quickly settled on his bed. It was still warm—Subaru probably just took a quick nap.

“The Suwen family was reaaally nice. Because of them, we were able to live like this.” Emilia was more than grateful for the Suwen house. Not only did they decide to support Subaru even though he was almost a nobody at that time, but they also provided them with a basic living place.

“Yeah… after all that happened, I’m still glad someone was there to help us.” Emilia went silent when he mentioned it, and Subaru realized that he had just messed up the conversation. He kept writing as the silence stretched on for a while.

“You know, Emilia… I told you many stories about stars, right?” Subaru glanced at the window; the dark sky filled with stellar beauty as he asked.

“Yeah, Subaru, I think it’s interesting, even inspirational…” Emilia stood up as she walked closer to the table, her eyes glimmering through the night.

“There’s a star far from us named Venus. Although I can argue it’s a planet, it also means ‘Star of Dawn,’ a symbol of a new beginning.” Subaru’s hand stretched out, seemingly trying to grab the stars in his hands.

“A new beginning…” Emilia’s mind trailed somewhere else; she imagined a life where she didn’t have to worry about the elves—maybe she could settle alone, or even with someone who would care about her, living without a worry.

“And it’s done! What do you want to talk about, Emilia-tan?” Subaru stretched his body before reaching the bed and landing softly on it.

“Well… I…” Emilia hesitated; she didn’t even know what she wanted from Subaru.

“Hmm… Then how about I give you a suggestion if you’re unsure. How’s a lap pillow sound?” Subaru cheekily asked as he patted his hand on his lap. Emilia was surprised at first but silently settled on it.

His lap was rough and muscular, although Emilia didn’t expect it to be soft, considering Subaru was a boy. But it warmed her heart nonetheless.

“Thank you, Subaru… although it’s really embarrassing.” Emilia shyly muttered, her head turned toward a corner of the room, avoiding Subaru’s downward gaze.

“You’re too cute being like this, Emilia-tan. Although it reminds me of the time when you gave me a lap pillow too.” Subaru smiled warmly, his head filled with memories—the day she comforted Subaru in his fear and doubts, hiding his pain away just for it to burst out.

“You… You! You also cried like a little kid too!” Emilia stuttered, but it worked on Subaru as he blushed and looked away.

“…”

The two remained silent for a while, reminiscing about their stories together—the day they first met, the time they spent at the mansion, and the inevitable tragedy that befell them both.

“Subaru… have you ever felt regret coming here with me? Please tell me the truth. What do you really think? I want to hear it.” Emilia’s voice choked in a silent sob; she didn’t cry yet—she couldn’t cry.

“If I’m being honest, Emilia-tan… if I was asked if I wanted to be in such a situation or not, I would say no. But I never felt even a hint of regret saving you.” Subaru spoke warmly, the smile never leaving his face.

“You don’t have to be nice. I understand that you were just burdened with some responsibilities that you put on yourself. But you need to be happy, Subaru. Be happy without me—maybe together with Rem.” Emilia muttered; she turned her head away so Subaru couldn’t see her crying face. But the wetness that seeped through his clothes didn’t lie.

“I never think about it that way, Emilia-tan. Even if I knew that something like this would happen, I’d still save you nonetheless.” Subaru dismissively replied. Emilia seemed confused.

“Why? Why do you want to stay with a half-elf like me, Subaru? You can be so much better than sticking with such a… dummy like me!” Emilia shouted through his lap, her voice breaking into small sobs as she finally gave in.

“A dummy, huh? Well, that’s right… Emilia-tan is such a dummy.” Subaru made a cute expression, trying to mimic Emilia’s tone—it made her irritated.

“It’s not time for jokes, Subaru…”

“Well… that’s not it, though. Emilia-tan is a dummy—she’s too kind and caring for others. She’s a bit naïve and airheaded, but when she tries her best, Emilia-tan is never a dummy in those things.” Subaru whispered through her elven ears as his head hung lower.

“Although you don’t remember, I was saved by you, Emilia-tan. My first day here was harsh and unforgiving, but you gave me the light at the end of the tunnel.” Subaru’s hand started wandering around Emilia’s ear; he playfully flicked it.

“Then why don’t I have any recollection of it? Are you lying just to make me feel better?” Emilia pouted, she’d had enough of white lies and sweet words from others.

“I won’t say that I’m good at keeping promises, nor that I always tell the truth… but Emilia-tan.” Subaru’s fingers entwined with Emilia’s locks of silver hair.

“This—I will never lie about. Not even in my wildest dreams.” Subaru carefully brushed her hair with his hand; it was as smooth as silk. Even Subaru had to envy the quality of her hair.

“So tell me, Emilia-tan… are you tired?” Subaru asked absentmindedly. The sobbing half-elf never turned her head toward him.

“Well… I am… it’s night, after all.” Emilia tried to scramble for a way to answer.

“No, not that… everything. I know you went through a lot, both with and without me… you are incredible, Emilia-tan.” Subaru’s words—his words—he told her that she was incredible? That she was cool? That she was cute? That she was still a person, more than just an elf that needed to be killed?

“No… Hk… I’m not.” Emilia’s words choked and turned to small sobs.

“I was never someone people could rely on… I’m a bit weird and such—such an idiot sometimes…”

“That’s never your bad quality; it’s just your personality—although I don’t agree with the idiot part there.” Subaru lightly scolded, pinching Emilia’s reddened cheek.

“I was a half-elf that looked like the Witch. And I truly am… I let all those people die; it was all my fault.” Emilia’s eyes were wet with tears, her nails digging into her palms.

“All of it wasn’t even your fault. You can’t control your appearance, nor Puck’s actions. All you endured came from others, not from yourself. You never deserved it.” Subaru patted her head slowly and calmly, like comforting a crying child.

“I don’t deserve it? Then why? Why do I have to go through such things?” Emilia cried out, the tears falling freely from her face, wetting Subaru’s pants.

“I don’t know… maybe fate never seems to care for anyone. All we can do is get through it.”

“Why did Puck betray me? Why can’t I save the elves now? Why is it my fault that all of them died? Why was I born as a half-elf? Why? Why? Subaru! Why? Please tell me!” Emilia ranted louder, then suddenly stopped.

“…If I’m being honest, I don’t know either, Emilia-tan. But just so you know, I’ll be there. Maybe I can’t promise to never make you cry or sad again, but I’ll make sure that I’m always there when you cry. Maybe I can help you stop, or cry together with you, or at the very least wipe your tears away after it’s all finished. Just know…”

“That my promise was to help you. It may have started from responsibility and gratitude, but not now. All of this is just because I care for you, Emilia-tan. Not as a Royal Candidate, nor a Witch, not even a half-elf—just a person. A flawed and a bit airheaded Emilia.” Hearing this, Emilia couldn’t handle it anymore; she turned her head toward his stomach, her face settling against him.

“Subaru… I’m… Hgkk… I’ve had enough.” Emilia bit her lips, the words coming out just as painfully as the day it happened.

“I… Puck… you liar… you said you were on my side…”

“I just want to live… Hgk… a normal life… Hrghh… with someone that cares about me…”
“Ahhh… Hahhhh!”

The wailing of the half-elf continued long after, and Subaru was simply there, petting her head and whispering comforting words.

“Hrghkk… Hgrghkk.” The sobbing grew smaller as Emilia finally vented out everything—her fear, her doubts, and even her hatred.

Seeing Emilia like this, Subaru knew it was wrong—that he shouldn’t say it. But Emilia, the half-elf who had saved him, who remained by his side in this hellish world he thought was an easy isekai—maybe now he could understand that it was just another life, with actual people and real hardship.

So Subaru couldn’t help but say it.

“It’s okay, Emilia-tan… maybe all will never be the same again. But just so you know.”
Subaru’s hand carefully carried Emilia’s head, making her look at him.

He was blushing, but his smile was as bright as ever—it reminded her of the time he saved her at the loot house; the foolish and funny smile never felt so delightful to Emilia before.

“I love you.”

Maybe the two could never end up together, and time would separate them as life continued to move on. But right now, that sentence was all the two wanted.

“I love you for what you are, and I never regret saving you that day. Never regret being with you, for eternity, for as long as I live,” Subaru confessed.

“Oh my god! I’m sorry, Subaru…” Emilia suddenly gasped, making Subaru flinch. What did she mean by sorry?

“I’m so, so sorry… I was a foolish girl…” Emilia hugged him closer; she couldn’t forgive herself for thinking that way.

“What… what do you mean, Emilia-tan?” Subaru worriedly asked.

“Felix told me how babies were made yesterday. He told me that by doing that, you’d be bound to me, love me… I’m sorry, Subaru, for even thinking about such possibilities.” Emilia muttered through her teeth; her words made Subaru wince.

“I thought that the only way for someone to love me was by that… I’m sorry, Subaru, I don’t know why I even thought about it. I never realized your feelings… I never knew that you loved me.”

“I’m disgusting, am I?” Emilia asked, her eyes filled with tears as despair seemed to seep into her mind.

“Although that sounds awful and unhealthy, you never considered it, right? If you did, we wouldn’t have this conversation. You decided to confront your insecurity and fear instead of hiding it and relying on an easier way, believing it was for your sake. You’ve grown, Emilia-tan.” Subaru said proudly. Despite all her overprotectiveness and naivety, Emilia was still a good person who never gave up in the face of hardship.

“As long as you’re still on the right path, I trust you to make the right choice until then… Emilia-tan.” Subaru carried her and laid her down on the bed.

“Then… about your confession…” Emilia shyly held the pillow to hide her blushing.

“I now know that… you love me… but I still don’t understand it much. I never thought someone could love me. So please, let me return the answer just a bit later, when everything finally calms down.” Emilia said.

“I want to love and be loved properly, as someone who deserves to stand by your side. So let me understand what I can be and who I am. I’m no longer the naïve and too-trusting half-elf anymore. But change needs time, and I’ll try my best.” Emilia declared, making Subaru just want to melt in her arms as happiness consumed him.

“I’m glad you finally think that way… alright then, I shall wait until you’re ready.” Subaru gave her a thumbs up.

“But… just so you know, that answer is a yes.” Emilia then hugged the pillow and rolled around the bed in embarrassment; it worked extremely well against Subaru too.

“Urgh! You’re too cute!” Subaru hopped on the bed and cuddled Emilia, excitedly waving and hugging her around the bed.

“Subaru! This is… well… whatever.” Emilia tried to retort, but the sensation was far too good to ignore.
Deciding to just stay that way, the two remained in the hugging posture, almost seeming to compete over who had the bigger hug, and fell asleep in each other’s arms.

“Subaru! Can you come with me a bit?” Emilia’s voice rang through the flower field. She waved her hand the moment she noticed Subaru was a bit absent-minded.

“Jeez! You’re zoning out again! We’re having a date today, remember?” Emilia lightly pouted, making Subaru laugh.

“Alright, alright! Sorry, Emilia-tan, but an angry Emilia-tan is still cute.” Subaru teased, making Emilia stick her tongue out playfully as a comeback.

“Woah! So cute! EMT!” Subaru gushed even more as he started doing weird dance moves.
The two laughed and joked for a while until they got tired and settled down on the picnic carpet.

Leaning against Subaru’s shoulder, Emilia enjoyed the sunset together with him as the wind blew the flowers to the flow.

Then, Subaru picked up a flower—the one with white petals and a yellow pistil. He placed it on Emilia’s ear, making her glance at it. It had a light, fresh, and somehow even sweet fragrance.

“It’s really beautiful on you, Emilia-tan! Silver hair and white flower—the best combination.”

“Thank you, Subaru. But what’s the name of the flower?” Emilia delicately touched the petals, silently observing it.

“Daffodil. A classic symbol of hope, renewal, and new beginnings. It’s the flower that blooms first in spring after a harsh winter, representing resilience and optimism for what’s ahead. Really fitting for you, Emilia-tan.” Subaru answered. Emilia smiled at his words.

“A new beginning, huh…” And before Emilia could think about it more, she woke up in his hands, her face still etched with a smile as she prepared for another day.

A new dawn, and a new beginning.

I feel like alot of ppl wrote Emilia really distbuing and manic, consdrring one of her most famous scene are liteally a madedning Emilia. but she don't just break so easily like that.
Well, Puck betrayed her, the Witch Cultist is chains after her, and the whole country think she's a monster. that's bad. but not even compare to the instance that she break.
At the Sanct, Emilia not only lost her pillar which was Puck and Subaru. She have to continously forced to take the trials, enduring the blame she never understand where she got it from. She keep brute force it until she break. And unlike Subaru who fate atleast give him a second chance. Emilia don't know that she will have such luxury( and curse). She only have one chance. thus, she break.

Chapter Text

After smoothing his shirt and fixing his head for a bit, Reinhard thought this was fine enough to go out. Although the need for the hat was unnecessary, but his father told him that he should wear one to protect himself from sunlight.

Well, he was the Sword Saint after all, there’s no need for such thing. But his father cared too much for him, even to the point of being overprotective.

“Cya soon, son! Remember that I say hi to that guy.” Heinkel waved at Reinhard before leaving.

“Father… since when did you start picking up words you learned from Subaru-san?” Reinhard sighed, but the smile on his face remained nonetheless.

“Whatever… probably I just hang out with that guy for far too long. Stay safe!” Heinkel gave him one last hug before he returned back together with the butler of the manor, Grimm.

Reinhard couldn’t help but feel excited — Subaru-san, someone he viewed like a second father, had just come back to Kararagi after a business trip. Although Reinhard begged him not to go alone, he decided that he would just go with his wife anyway. Reinhard was glad that he was safe.

But there wasn’t really much need for protection for Subaru if someone looked at it objectively… you see, Subaru’s wife is the Witch of Envy.

Yes, the Witch of Envy herself: Satella. And why Reinhard—as the Sword Saint—didn’t take care of her to protect the kingdom?

Well… she’s not exactly a monster to begin with…

“Ahh! Rein-kun! Come here! I made some sweet tarts.” Satella called Reinhard, her hands still holding the tray of freshly baked tarts.

“Oh… thanks, Satella-san.” Reinhard shyly took one from the tray; he needed to save one for his siblings later.

“Don’t use honorifics, Rein-kun. I’m still a young married housewife, after all.” Satella pouted, her finger pointing at Reinhard, making him drop his gaze guiltily.

“C’mon, Tella-tan. Rein totally looks so down mood. Plus, you are not exactly young, my more-than-400-years-old miss.” Subaru appeared behind Reinhard and knocked lightly on his shoulder.

“Hey! Hubby should not talk bad about his wife like that!” Satella pouted, her arms crossed as she looked at Subaru with a stern gaze.

“Oh~ I’m so sorry, my beloved. How would this foolish husband repay the favor?” Subaru asked cheekily, his eyes never leaving Satella’s lips.

“Of course you know what to do, hubby.” Satella pulled Subaru closer as they gave a long and hot French kiss. Reinhard bore no reaction, seemingly used to the scene. Not like it was uncommon—they do this at least 20 times a day.

After their tongues departed, the two realized that they were just making out right in front of their adoptive child and started blushing.

“Argh! Rein-kun… it’s just that we were lost in the moment and…” Satella flailed her hands around.

“That’s alright… although please don’t use your real name nor announce the fact that you are the Witch to everyone during the family gathering. I would love not to deal with Felix nor Emilia about this.” Reinhard waved his hand dismissively. The fact is, only Subaru and Reinhard knew about her true identity—Subaru because he was her husband, of course, and Reinhard simply because he’s built different.

When he first met Satella, he instantly recognized it was the Witch and was wary at first. But after a whole lot of talking together, Reinhard fully trusted Satella wouldn’t commit such actions that she used to again.

It turned out that was simply a loss of control due to the power she was forced onto, a feeling Reinhard was very sympathetic about. When his grandmother died in the White Whale conquest, his grandfather blamed all the sins onto Reinhard just because something he can’t control. Such a thing almost broke his own mind until he met Subaru.

“Hey kid! Why are you so lonely around the mansion garden? Wanna play something cool?” A young man who was wearing a weird outfit called out from the door of the Astrea family.

“Uh… I can’t. I can’t leave the house right now… things happened.” Reinhard shyly replied, the word ‘lonely’ made him itch a little.

“Boring… you don’t even have a friend to play? So I can’t come to your house nor you can get out? How about we trade letters?” Subaru held the bar of the manor door as he shouted.

Reinhard was a bit confused—why would anyone want to play with him? He was a monster that killed his grandmother and betrayed his grandfather’s love. He wasn’t allowed to have fun.

“Why do you look so sad for? C’mon, smile kid! Bleh.” Subaru started making ridiculous faces, his infinite energy seeming to never dissipate.

“Uh… Well. Thank you for thinking about playing with me, mister?” Reinhard tilted his head.

“Subaru. Natsuki Subaru,” the boy answered.

“Nice to be your friend, Mister Natsuki!” Reinhard smiled warmly, although surprised that someone wanted to be his friend, he still enjoyed it nonetheless.

Reinhard started to befriend Subaru. He was an eccentric person with weird attire, but never in Reinhard’s life did he feel such a sense of connection to someone — the only time he felt like this before was with his mother.

But fate still had much to offer to Reinhard. His dad, Heinkel, after the fallout of the Astrea family, had started to abuse alcohol as a way to escape.
It went on—at first just some grunting and cursing fate—but now it had grown into much more hateful speech. He was completely given in to his grief for his mother and the guilt that his father forced onto him.

“Tch… This is bad. Is your father’s mental health that much worse?” Subaru leaned against the wall as he asked.

“Yes... He’s started to drink alcohol to an extensive amount. I’m scared… Subaru-san. What should I do?” Reinhard worriedly asked.

“I’ll try to talk with him. Although he says bad things about you, I know that there’s still some love left in him. And you deserve more than just a normal family—a happy one. I will talk to him. It’s still there… the love for the son that his family rejected.” Subaru’s voice filled with determination.

And ever since then, Subaru—Reinhard’s friend and later godfather (a title he named for himself; Reinhard asked what this meant, but Subaru just said that he belonged to the family now) became Heinkel’s great friend and mental support, helping him overcome the fear and insecurity about himself and his family.

After all passed, Heinkel, although still very adamant about saving Louanna, had treated Reinhard like a genuinely loving father, albeit he never talked to Wilhelm ever since.

Reinhard was grateful and happy to have such a person in his family. Although not by blood, Reinhard could feel their connection in a sense.

Not only that, but his family also had a lot—and he meant a lot—of members, which Subaru added in like he was adding something to the dictionary.

A knock was heard lightly on the door, and after Satella called out to open it, a woman with silver hair appeared at the entrance and hugged her.

“Teliar-tan! Long time no see!” Emilia quite literally jumped on Satella as she spun her around.

“Emilia-chan! Who’s my lovely cute daughter!” Satella hugged back as the two laughed together. Subaru and Reinhard smiled warmly at the heartwarming scene.

“Mo… Don’t say that or Erisia will be mad.” Emilia pouted.

“Also? Where’s Estella and Erisia? I want to see them.” Emilia asked, wondering about the children of Subaru and Satella.

“Oh. Erisia is going to sleep. She had a tired trip after all. And Estella already went out to play knight and dragon with Julius.” Satella’s answer made Emilia a bit disappointed.

“I want to play with them~ Julius is so lucky.” Emilia huffed before settling on the table, and unlike Reinhard, she grabbed every single sweet she saw on the table and only left a few for Estella and Erisia

“Wow… Emilia-tan is ignoring me today. What is my lovely daughter angry at?” Subaru instantly noticed that Emilia was ignoring him when she arrived at the house.

Then Reinhard came close and whispered, “Subaru-san. Remember the time where you promised to take Erisia to play snowskating with her and then it was declined by the sudden trip to Kararagi?”

“Ohhh! That’s why!” Subaru knew he fucked up, out of anyone, Emilia was someone Subaru MUST keep promises with at all costs, or else.

“Hmp!” Or else Emilia would give him silent treatment for a long period of time. He had endured something similar when he forgot to leave some cake for her when Emilia was busy going to training with Reinhard, resulting in a whole month of silent judgment from Emilia.

“Emilia-tan! I’m sorry! I swear I’ll be better.” Subaru clasped his hands, trying to show how sorry he was.

“No! That’s what you get for breaking promises. Let’s go, Teliar-tan. I want to have some teas only with you.” Emilia huffed as she held Satella’s hand and dragged her out of the house.
Leaving Subaru alone with Reinhard, he sighed and slumped down on the table. Reinhard was silently observing.

“Even my wife betrayed me and left with my daughter… I’m the worst.” Subaru muttered jokingly, knowing full well Reinhard was going to worry again.

“Subaru-san! It’s not like that at all…” And just as he expected, Reinhard quickly tried to comfort Subaru—who thought the Sword Saint could be such a caring son like this?

“Alright, alright Rein. I was just joking… Hmm. Let’s see how I can make Emilia-tan happy now.” Subaru struck a thinking pose.

“How about we make a big birthday party for her? Just like when you did for Felix a few months back.” Reinhard suggested, half expecting such a fun occasion that was hosted by Subaru.

“Hmm… That’s a good idea, Rein! Nice support!” Subaru shouted excitedly as he patted Reinhard’s head. The Sword Saint was too used to it—and it was a nice feeling too. So he just let Subaru continue his patting until he was bored.

“Mhm… Who’s there?” The bedroom door opened as the young elf girl stepped out, seemingly awake and annoyed by the noise.

“Papa is such a loudmouth… I’m telling Mama.” Estella muttered while wiping her sleepy face with a towel.

“Hey! Since when did my cute Sia-tan talk to her father like that? I didn’t teach my daughter like that.” Subaru pointed at the groggy kid elf who was irritatedly wiping her face.

“Bleh! Papa is loud all the time. Even at night, me and Stella always hear your voice through the entire house!” Erisia’s words shut Subaru instantly as he flushed and looked away, while Reinhard was giving him ‘the look.’

“Well… uh. Forget about it! Emilia-tan is here so go play with her. She’s outside in the garden talking to Mama.” Subaru pushed Erisia out the door, trying to move on from the topic.

“Huh! Lia? I’m coming!” Erisia, the moment she heard Emilia, rushed through the door. There she met both her mom and her adoptive sister having tea at the garden.

The young half-elf quickly got scooped up by Emilia as she raised her arm up and placed Erisia on her shoulder.

“Sia-tan! Who’s my cute little princess?” Emilia giggled when Erisia started acting flustered.

“I’m… I’m not a princess!” Erisia stuttered as she flailed her arms around in protest.

“But you are really beautiful, Sia. Just like a princess from a book.” Emilia poked her thighs and tickled her, making Erisia squirmed around.

“No…Not at all. I have elf blood… I just look like the Witch.” Erisia grew sad at the self-deprecating thought. Although her mom told her it didn’t matter, Erisia was still sad that her origin was being compared to a monster.

The place grew silent until Satella sighed. So now she needed to start another lesson for another daughter of hers.

The thing is, this wasn’t the first time she had to deal with a low self-esteem daughter; Emilia was her first case.

When she and Subaru found her inside an ice crystal in Ellior Forest, her husband had asked her to help thaw Emilia out. Due to the complexity of the magic, only Emilia was thawed out of the ice while the other elves remained frozen.

After living with both of them for a while, Emilia grew insecure about her appearance due to how similar she was to the Witch of Envy—which was Satella herself, albeit Emilia never knew about it. But Satella felt guilty, wherever her adoptive daughter went, there was always insult and fear etched on their journey.

So Satella took it upon her responsibilities to make sure Emilia would never think badly about her appearance and origin anymore. The first few steps were hard at first, where Emilia couldn’t even fathom that being born didn’t mean she had to be treated like that. Up until Satella revealed to Emilia herself that she was also a silver half-elf—she had been using magic to hide her appearance all this time.

Emilia, although surprised and even disheartened when she first saw that, soon accepted her appearance and started to like it when she knew it was the same as her mother—someone precious, kind, and confident like her still lived strong despite the discrimination.

Although Satella did worry about the situation similar to Emilia at first when she wanted a child with Subaru, fearing that her lineage would make them insecure about themselves, such problems were quickly thrown out the window when Subaru looked that cute in his bed… nevermind.

“Erisia… you shouldn’t say that.” Satella slowly patted her head. The girl seemed on the verge of tears when she said that.

“But… the other kids said… said that I was scary! That I look like a Witch.” Erisia sobbed silently, she still had the awful memories in mind during the trip to Kararagi.

“Sia-tan… I also got the same thing… everywhere I went, people cursed and insulted me, calling me a Witch.” Emilia hugged Erisia closer to her chest, her clothes dampened with Erisia’s tears.

“But when Teliar told me that she was also a half-elf with silver hair, I was so happy, really happy that I had this elven blood. Do you know why, Sia-tan?” Erisia shook her head, her eyes still showing the stains of tears.

“Because I know that I have the same look as her—the amazing Teliar and our mother. Even with her appearance, she continued to be kind, passionate, and patient. I was glad that I was similar to someone as cool as her. And Sia-tan can be the same too, alright? So don’t cry.” Emilia patted Erisia’s head, her face lit up with a smile as she glanced at her mom.

“That was the same thing you said to me as well… right, Teliar-tan?” Emilia smiled warmly, while Satella bit her lips while smiling, trying not to shed a tear.

“You made me proud now, Emilia-chan.” Satella fixed a messy flock of silver hair from Erisia.

“Mama so cool! If I can be as cool as Mama, then I’m fine!” Erisia excitedly jumped around, making the two giggle.

Subaru, who was watching from the window, couldn’t help but feel happy. Ever since his life was changed a few years ago—teleporting to another world—and his wife was the summoner as well (although he didn’t know it until much later).

Meeting Satella was a rare yet enduring journey for him. He found out that he had the power to revert time when he died, and the one who gave it to him was his wife, with the desire to keep Subaru safe.

After embarking on a long journey, Subaru helped Satella manifest part of her body to the real world outside the seal, and the two continued to live peacefully with Satella taking an alias named Teliar.

Subaru was content with living his life like this, although a group of terrorists named Witch Cult—using his wife’s name as a way to excuse themselves to commit horrible actions—was still around. Subaru even encountered them sometimes—still lurking around. Satella begged him not to chime in for his safety, however.

But Subaru still wished to do something nonetheless. Now he had become a successful businessman with many operations to support citizens and eradicate Witch Cultist attacks, and along with a famous tendency to… adopt everyone he could.

Well, having the Sword Saint as his adoptive son really helped make the Witch Cult not attack him, although he was sure Satella could just take care of them—she was still insanely strong despite only having a part of her power.

“Hubby, time for some afternoon snacks! Can you call Estella and Julius outside the training field there?” Satella came back to the house as she prepared some food for the two wannabe knight duo.

“Alright, I’m going!” Subaru obeyed as he opened the door, enjoying the afternoon scenery, fully satisfied with what he had in this world.

As he kept walking forward, his story still continued—but the first thing that he really needed to care about was Emilia’s birthday, a simple wish to be happy with his family.

Maybe he could fully restart his life, in another world. Just like this.
