Chapter Text
“Ah you're here.” Tomichi Shigaraki greeted as she opened her front door. She gestured for the teen to come in as she grabbed a pearl earring from the small side table and started to put it on. “Thank you for coming on such short notice. I have no idea why the previous babysitter refused to show but what is done is done. You won't be having any issues being alone with the boys for a couple hours right?”
The women, dressed in a very form fitting black dress and white pearls turned to the green haired teen as she finished putting both earrings in, giving a once over. She tried not to make her disdain for the dyed hair too obvious as despite all the metas popping up nowadays, the younger generation still liked to do such things. She also didn't want to make the boy, with his tacky shirt and baggy shorts, leave cause she couldn’t be late for this company party trying to find someone else willing to babysit.
“Of course Shigaraki-san. I’ll be sure to have the two done with their homework and in bed by nine as requested. I have your number saved in my phone in case anything should arise and as it said on my profile, I’m CPR certified.” the teen answered with a smile.
She hummed before grabbing her purse and doing a final check on everything. “And Yoichi’s medicine?”
“Already have an alarm set to eight thirty to be sure I don’t forget.”
Tomichi nodded approvingly. “Good. Their dinner is already in the fridge. I trust you’ll be fine to heat that up?”
“No need to worry Shigaraki-san. I make dinner for my mom sometimes when she has to work late so I’ll be fine.”
“Good.” With everything accounted for, the woman called out to her sons. “Yoichi! Hisashi! I’ll be leaving now!”
Two sets of footsteps could be heard running towards the front of the house as Tomichi put on her shoes.
Once she stood again, she turned to her two sons. “Now boys, this is Izuku Midoriya. He’s agreed to watch you two while I'm gone. Behave.”
“Yes, mom/mother.” the two chanted with small nods.
She gave an approving one in return before facing the teenager once more. “I’ll see you at ten.” And with that she left.
“So,” Izuku asked as he turned to face the two boys, “what do you guys want to do before dinner?”
“Color!” the six year old shouted, doing a little hop.
The nine year old just looked the teen up and down before huffing and walking away.
Izuku didn’t mind, just letting the younger of the two, Yoichi if he’s remembering correctly, drag him towards the living room to color some Marvel and DC coloring books.
During the next couple of hours, Hisashi didn’t say a word. Yoichi and Izuku did most of the chatting during the coloring and dinner, and Hisashi shook his head when the teen offered to help with homework. Despite the silence though, he stayed close to his little brother. Always tensing up when Yoichi started to cough. Izuku stayed calm and would simply rub the small boys back and coach him through it despite the death glare the action would gain him.
Eventually, once the kitchen was cleaned up, homework put away, and the boys dressed in their pajamas, Izuku’s phone went off. He shut off the alarm and headed to the spot where Yoichi's medicine was designated on the kitchen counter. He grabbed the correct dosage of pills and a glass of water before heading back to Yoichi.
“Time for your medicine.” Izuku declared with a smile.
Instantly, the boy wilted. “Do I have to?” he asked with a small voice.
The teen ignored the murderous stare the nine year old was giving him as he crouched down in front of the smaller white haired boy. “What do you mean Yoichi?”
The boy shuffled a bit before clarifying. “Do I have to take the med-a–cine?”
Izuku hummed before sitting down on the floor to get more comfortable. “Well, from what I understand, I think it would be a good idea. Why don’t you want to take it?”
Yoichi’s brows furrowed as he explained. “It’s gross. I don’t like it. Plus I can't breathe when I take it.”
“You can’t breathe cause you have to swallow a big pill?”
He nodded.
“Well,” Izuku started, leaning back a bit, “that is a problem. You need to breathe after all and it's no fun having to deal with things that are gross.”
That finally got the six year old’s green eyes to look up as he nodded, seeming to feel a little better at having someone listening to his complaints.
“What about swimming though?” the teen abruptly asked as he tilted his head.
“Huh?”
“You know, swimming. You can’t exactly breathe underwater after all. And drinking water! People usually hold their breath when drinking or eating something.”
“That’s different!” Hisashi finally cut in. Izuku tried not to let his joy of having the boy finally speak to him show.
“Is it though? I mean breathing is important but drinking water and eating are too. It’s okay to hold your breath for a second to do those things right?”
“Well yea, obviously. “ The nine year old exclaimed with an eye roll. Izuku had to hold in a laugh. “But the medicine is gross. Yoichi shouldn’t have to take something gross.”
“True.” the teen conceded. “However,” he continued, “if it's important then it might be worth it.”
Hisashi, who had relaxed at the original statement, regained his glare.
“Hear me out.” Izuku tried, raising his hands in surrender. “Have you ever gotten sick before?”
The older boy rolled his eyes but nodded.
“And did you have to take medicine?”
He huffed but gave another affirmative.
“And it was gross right?”
“Yea. It was.” the boy said with more sass than Izuku thought was possible for someone not even in their double digits.
“But it made you feel better, right?”
At that, Hisashi froze. Seeming to think the new information over. Finally, he conceded quietly with a small movement of his head. Satisfied, Izuku turned to the younger brother who had been watching the whole exchange with wide eyes.
“So Yoichi, how about it?”
Said boy just stared at the offered pills and cup of water for a minute. He then dropped his face towards the floor.
“But I still don’t feel better. The med-a-sin isn’t working. I’m too sick.”
Hisashi looked upset at that but Izuku wouldn’t give in just yet.
“Hey, you're not too sick. Sometimes people just have to take medicine longer than others. Doesn’t mean it's not working.”
“Realy?” the six year old asked hopefully.
“Yea! I had to take a lot of medicine when I was younger. Born really weak and sick but look at me now!” Izuku exclaimed, before he reached for the smaller boy and lifted him into his arms, spinning them in a small circle.
Yoichi squealed then giggled as the two spun. Eventually he nodded though.
“Okay! I’ll take it. I want to be strong when I grow up. Like Superman!”
Izuku laughed. “I can’t promise that taking your medicine will make you as strong as Superman but we’ll see.”
With that, the teen placed the boy onto the couch next to his brother before he returned to the medicine and water he placed on the coffee table. Yoichi took the pills like a champ and Izuku gave him a big hug and good job.
Right at ten o’clock, Tomichi returned home to the smell of chamomile tea and a clean home.
“Oh, Shigaraki-san! I hope you don’t mind. I just wanted to make you some tea for when you got home. Though now that I think about it, I don’t even know if you like tea before bed and I really should have asked before going through your cupboards and oh what if this was an expensive blend?! I’m such an idiot. I’m so sorry! You can cut my pay for the tea, I really should have asked first and-”
“Midoriya-kun.” she interrupted, effectively shutting the rambling short. “I don’t mind. Thank you for the thoughtfulness. How were the boys?”
“Oh, they were great!” As the boy continued with his report, Tomichi hung up her coat and rid herself of the rest of her jewelry. Towards the end of the boy’s rant, she had already got the teens pay ready and took a sip of her tea.
“Sounds like things went smoothly,” she commented, slightly distracted by the frankly amazing cup of chamomile.
“Yea. I mean, Hisashi-kun was pretty much silent for the whole evening but after I convinced Yoichi-kun to take his medicine, he was a little more chatty.”
That caused Tomichi to pause. Usually, Yoichi wouldn’t want to take his medicine and with how protective Hisashi was of his younger brother, the endeavor was usually abandoned, leaving the women to have to insure her son had taken his pills for the night. Hearing that not only was Midoriya-kun able to convince her son to take his dreaded pills but also Hisashi didn’t cause the teen any bodily harm in the process (even sounding as if he was a bit friendly for once) was a bit baffling.
“Well, I’m glad to hear it. Now I'm sure it's time you were headed home. You did mention having a mother that I’m sure will be worried.”
“Oh! Yes. Of course. I should be heading home.”
With that, Tomichi gave the boy his payment and walked him towards the door.
“Hope to see you again Midoriya-kun.”
“You as well, Shigaraki-san.”
With that, Midoriya became Hisashi and Yoichi’s regular babysitter. Picking them up from school to watch till their mother was home, weekends when Shigarki-san had to work, and late nights at company parties or finalizing last minute paperwork, Midoriya would be there. He would help with homework, watch movies, give congrats on good grades and encouragement on not so good test scores. Midorya would even insure to give Yoichi a hug and ruffle his hair no matter how easy or difficult it was to take his medicine that day.
He became their unofficial older brother, always able to make Yoichi feel better after a day of teasing about his white hair and keep up with Hisashi’s biting comments with sly and lighthearted ones of his own.
Shigaraki-san also saw the benefits of having Midoriya around. Finally she had a babysitter that not only didn’t assume her children were metas for being albino but was also able to handle the two. It was especially a bonus that the boy seemed to be an amazing chef, making mouth watering food with his heavenly teas for when she came home after long days.
She even entertained the idea of Izuku being her own son once when Yoichi came running towards him once shouting “Izu-nii” only for the teen to pick him up with a spin and exclaimed “Yo-chan.”
Of course she realized the idea was preposterous. Midoriya-kun already had a mother. There was no way the woman would give up her lovely son just because another woman wanted him as her own.
At least, not willingly.
