When Heaven Strikes

Chapter 4: Saving My bestie

Chapter Text

The air in Hell had taken on a thick, acrid stench—smoke mixed with the scent of burning flesh and blood. The sound of angelic wings flapping through the air still echoed in Blitz's ears, though for now, his crew had found a brief moment of piece. They crouched behind the shattered remains of what once had been a bustling demon marketplace, now reduced to rubble and broken bodies.

Blitz's mind keeps going back to before, from leaving Stolas behind. His heart was pounding, a constant reminder of his failure to protect Stolas. The tight knot of anxiety in his chest made it hard to breathe, and every second that passed without knowing if Stolas was okay gave Blitz anxiety.

"Blitz, we can't stay here for long," Moxxie whispered, his voice tense. "They're still searching the area."

Blitz touched his gun tight, his jaw clenching. He knew Moxxie was right, but the weight of his fear for Stolas had paralyzed him. He felt torn in two—his duty to his team and his overwhelming need to go back for Stolas, to make sure he was alive. Blitz forced himself to nod, shaking off the cloud of emotions suffocating him. He had to focus.

"We move as soon as it's clear," Blitz muttered, glancing toward the sky. The angels had split up, likely hunting elsewhere, but they couldn't afford to stay exposed for long.

Suddenly, a low, pained groan broke the uneasy silence. Blitz's head whipped around, scanning the rubble. It came from nearby, but not one of his crew.

"Did you hear that?" Millie asked, her eyes darting nervously.

Loona sniffed the air, her ears perking up. "There's someone close by," she said, her voice wary. "And it's hurt."

Blitz's eyes narrowed, his instincts kicking in. Someone was out there—maybe another demon survivor, or maybe something worse. "Stay sharp," He whispered. With careful, quiet steps, Blitz moved toward the source of the sound, his gun raised and ready.

As they pushed deeper into the rubble, the groans grew louder, more desperate. Blitz's heart raced, his nerves on edge. He crouched down behind a pile of broken concrete and twisted metal, peeking over the edge.

His eyes widened when he saw him. He was covered in scratches and bruises and was covering his face in fear.

"Fizz...?"

There, wrapped up in the wreckage, was Fizzarolli. His normally confident demeanor was gone, replaced by sheer terror and pain. His robotic limbs were all broken and damaged, sparking faintly with each twitch. His face was a mask of panic and fear, his usual grin nowhere to be found.

"Blitz?" Fizz's voice was sounding rough, barely above a whisper, as his wide eyes met Blitz's.

Blitz didn't waste a second. "Cover me," He barked to his team, before scrambling over the rubble and sliding down to Fizz's side.

Fizz flinched as Blitz approached, his body tensing like he was bracing for another blow. The sight made Blitz's chest tighten. This wasn't the same sassy, taunting Fizzarolli he was used to. He was broken—physically and mentally—and Blitz could tell he had been through hell since they last saw each other.

",You okay Fizz? what the hell happened to you?" Blitz asked, his voice softer now, scanning the damage to Fizz's mechanical limbs.

Fizz was tense, his breath shaky. "Got... separated from Ozzie," He muttered, barely able to keep his voice steady. "Angels... they came out of nowhere. Everything... everything's burning. Ozzie tried to hold them off, told me to run, but I got hit... I-I don't even know if he's okay."

A shiver went down Blitz's body at the thought of Asmodeus—one of the most powerful demons in Hell—fighting off angels. If even he was struggling, that meant the Extermination was worse than Blitz had imagined.

"We'll find him," Blitz said, his tone more resolute than he felt. "But we need to get you out of here first. Can you move?"

Fizz tried to move, then shook his head, his robotic limbs sparking weakly as he tried to move his legs. "Not... not like this. I can't even stand up..."

Blitz swore under his breath. They were exposed, and carrying Fizz would slow them down. But leaving him behind wasn't an option. He wasn't going to lose anyone else—not Stolas, not Fizz.

"Loonie, get over here," Blitz called, and Loona quickly moved to his side. "Help me carry him. We need to get to a safer hideout—fast."

Loona nodded, slipping an arm under Fizz's damaged frame, while Blitz supported the other side. Together, they lifted him, moving as quickly as they could while keeping low. Fizz let out a small hurtful sound with every step, his body trembling with pain and fear, but he didn't complain.

As they dragged Fizz through the debris, Moxxie and Millie kept watch, their weapons ready. The sky above was suspiciously quiet, but Blitz knew better than to let his guard down. The angels were always watching, always waiting for the right moment to strike.

"Blitz..." Fizz's voice cracked as they made their way through the wreckage. "Blitz, I'm... I'm..really scared." He started to say in a quiet voice.

Blitz felt his chest tighten. Hearing Fizz admit that out loud—it hit him harder than he expected. Fizz had always been so cocky, so sure of himself. Seeing him like this, so vulnerable, it reminded Blitz of the fragility of everyone he cared about.

He started to hug Fizz, trying to calm him down. "I know," Blitz said, his voice strained but steady. "But you're not alone. We'll get you out of here, I promise."

Fizz's breath calmed down a little bit, but he didn't say anything else. Blitz could feel the weight of his fear pressing down on both of them, but he pushed it aside and he let go of the hug. He had to stay focused. He had to keep Fizz safe, keep his team safe.

They finally found a partially collapsed building, its structure providing just enough cover to hide them from the angels' view. Blitz and Loona carefully set Fizz down inside the crumbling shelter, while Moxxie and Millie checked the doors and windows.

Fizz slumped against a wall, his breathing ragged. "Thanks... Blitz," He murmured, his voice barely audible. "For... not leaving me, again...."

Blitz knelt down beside him, his heart still racing. "I wasn't gonna leave you, Fizz. Not today, not ever."

Fizz managed a weak, trembling smile, but the fear in his eyes remained. "Do you think... Ozzie's okay?"

Blitz wanted to reassure him, to tell him that Asmodeus was fine, but the truth was, he didn't know. Hell was in chaos, and no one—not even powerful Overlords—were safe. But he couldn't let Fizz drown in that fear. Not now.

"Ozzie's tough," Blitz said, forcing confidence into his voice. "He'll find his way back to you. We just need to keep moving, alright?"

Fizz nodded weakly, though it was clear he wasn't convinced. But Blitz had said what he could. He couldn't give Fizz the certainty he wanted—no one could. Not in the middle of this Extermination.

Moxxie reappeared at the entrance of the shelter, his face grim. "We can't stay here for long. Angels are circling back around. We need to keep moving."

Blitz cursed under his breath. They didn't have the luxury of resting. "Alright, let's get ready to move," He said, standing up and preparing himself for another chaotic escape.

Fizz, his voice quiet but filled with dread, spoke up again. "Blitz... what if... we don't make it..."

"Don't," Blitz cut him off sharply, turning to look him dead in the eyes. "Don't even think about it. We're getting out of here. You're getting out of here."

Fizz swallowed hard, the fear in his eyes flickering again, but he didn't argue.

Blitz motioned for Loona to help lift Fizz again, and they prepared to move out. But just as they were about to leave the shelter, the screech of angelic wings echoed in the distance. Blitz's stomach dropped. The angels were closing in.

"Move!" Blitz ordered, his voice hoarse as they hurried back into the open, dragging Fizz along with them.

They sprinted through the wreckage, the sound of wings growing louder, closer. Blitz's heart pounded in his chest, his mind racing with panic. Not now, not after we've come this far.

A bright flash of light erupted from the sky ahead, and Blitz's eyes widened in horror as another group of angels descended, their glowing eyes locking onto them.

Blitz raised his gun, firing wildly, but the angels were too fast. They swooped down, their weapons gleaming, ready to strike. Blitz braced himself for the worst.

But just before the angels could reach them, a deafening roar echoed through the sky. A wave of demonic energy exploded in front of them, sending the angels in the other direction.

Blitz's eyes scanned around, trying to make sense of what had just happened. In the distance, a shadowy figure emerged from the smoke. fire—tall, powerful, it was unmistakable.

Asmodeus.

Fizz let out a ragged gasp, his eyes wide with disbelief and relief. "Ozzie!!"

Blitz exhaled sharply, a mixture of relief and exhaustion washing over him. They had made it.
