Chapter Text
Falling!
Frisk tried to grab onto something, anything, as they fell into some sort of large hole.
Is that… flowers?
Frisk hit the patch of flowers, and everything went dark.
And there seemed to be… something sounding like voices.
Frisk woke up, covered in bruises, looking at the area around them.
“Where… am I?”
They were in some sort of ancient ruin, with tall marble columns stretching up to the sky. They appeared to have landed on some golden flowers.
“That was lucky. I probably would have died if those flowers weren’t there.”
“Well, time to-”
“TURN BACK! DO NOT DIE HER-”
Frisk momentarily fell on their back by the loud voice, and lay dazed on the ground for a while.
“Hello? Anyone there?”
“AND NOW I AM IN THE HEAD OF SOME IDIOT!”
Frisk looked around everywhere, trying to see a person, but there was no one around.
“Howdy! No, you’re not insane, we’re just incorporeal.”
“You probably are insane.”
“Greetings! It’s been so long since I’ve seen another human! How’s your day been? Well, you did fall down a large hole which shouldn’t be nice to anyone…”
“I love being insane! Yippee!”
“AND I AM STUCK WITH FOUR OTHER IDIOTS!” The first voice made an exasperated shout, and then huffed and became silent.
“Hey! Loud person! Uhh…” What do you say to an incredibly mad ghost in your head?
“How’s the weather today?”
There was another exasperated noise, this time from all of the voices.
“You really had to do that, didn't you?”
“I refuse to speak to you.” The loud voice, now less loud, spoke with a serious and angry tone. “Human.” They uttered that line like it was some sort of curse word, filled with some deep-rooted malice.
“But you’re human too.”
“And look where that got me.” The loud voice went silent again.
Frisk wanted to know more about their voice. Yes, they did appear to hate them, but that was the whole point. What happened? What happened in the past to make them this way?
Frisk wanted to help.
“Man, what a party pooper. Well, you look like a good guy. Again, greetings. My situation is… kinda strange. I.. haven’t been alive in quite a while.”
“Same. Last time I remembered I was slowly dying on an apartment top, and then… I was here.”
“Same with you guys? I was… Let’s not talk about it.”
“So we’re all ghosts! I, myself, got killed by this rather large and scary monster.”
“I…” Another voice, softer than the rest spoke nervously.
“Lillie? Is… that you?”
“... Maroon? Is that…” The first voice started crying. “I was so scared… of those monsters…”
“There, There. You’re safe now. I thought I‘ll never see you again. Funny how fate works sometimes.”
“Alright, cut it with this sappy business, I am getting annoyed.” The first voice came back, now sounding much more annoyed than before.
“Man, you really are a jerk, aren’t you?” Maroon snapped back with a tranquil fury.
“So? Does it look like I care? Your death was a great service to monsterkind.” The loud voice retorted angrily.
“Listen here, you little-” Maroon started talking, before being interrupted by one of the earlier voices.
“Guys, stop that! Look at the human!”
Frisk’s face was a pale white, shivering in fear.
“Monsters?”
All(well almost all) of the voices immediately knew that they messed up.
“Well, monster’s may seem scary, partner, but there’s no worry! There’s only… a fox that wants to grab my soul, a sheriff who almost killed me once… But hey! There was this very kind blue bird!”
“Yeah, like he said!” Maroon exclaimed enthusiastically. “There were only a few monsters that wanted to kill me!”
“You guys are not helping.” One of the voices pointed out that obvious fact, as Frisk seemed to be getting even more pale.
“Move, Frisk!” Frisk tried to force their legs to move somewhere, anywhere, but they just couldn’t move.
“Please!” Frisk though desperately. “Why am I like this? It’s not a big deal! I know.. All of these voices.. They want to move forward… They are all so determined. But why? Why am I always this scared? Why am I always this usel-”
“Human.” The loud voice interrupted Frisk’s thoughts. “Just to be clear, I am only saying this because I need you to help me with something, but… Don’t worry. I know a lot of things. Heck, we probably know a lot of things about this place. If you encounter any problems, I will help guide you.”
“Yeah, guess we’re partners now, pal. I’ll help you every step of the way.”
“It would be rude of me to not help.”
“I was unfortunate enough to barely know anything about this place. I won’t let that happen to you.”
“I’ll… see what I can do to help!”
“We’re going to have a lot of fun together! So there’s no need to worry!”
“You… really mean that?” Frisk said shakily.
“Human.” Frisk lifted their head up at that voice. Despite there not being anyone in sight, it almost felt like… someone was resting a hand on their shoulder.
“Stay determined, alright?”
“Will do.” Frisk took a step forward, accompanied by their new companions.
