Summary
When Summer was younger, she used to play a little game. The rules were simple: when your friends all talk about the boys they like, you pick one to like as well, you make up things you like about him–like his eyes, or his smile, or his laugh–and when you tell you friends, you act like the thought of even discussing it makes you flustered and embarrassed. It’s an easy act to put up and Summer Dileo loves acting. So, this little game of Summer’s came to her as easily as breathing. Almost too easily…
Or; Summer after she comes to terms with the fact she’s a lesbian. She begins to feel more comfortable with herself and with her identity - refuses to let any boy try to “fix her”. Summer is complete as she is, and she is happy and comfortable with her identity :)

Summary
So, knowing all of this, Jade feels stupid. And even knowing how it ends, Jade thinks he would still fall in love with Summer Dileo all over again. And isn’t that pathetic?
Because the worst thing is, getting from point A to point B—from being so hopelessly adored by Summer to hardly being spared a glance—wasn’t even a short process so the idea Jade would put herself through it all over again should be dismissed without a second thought. And yet…
Or; Jade wonders if Summer only loves her because he’s a vigilante or whether she actually loves Jade for Jade. When Summer kisses Jade is she thinking of Jade Ngô or “Cantrip”? Sometimes she can’t tell if he is placed second best to her own vigilante identity.

Summary
And this works perfectly well until Jade is knocked a bit closer by a passing ensemble member, taking Summer’s breath away for the second time since the curtains closed. Because Summer was right before, the stars on Jade’s cheeks are very easy to get lost in, especially now when she’s close enough to be able to count just how many there are. She almost does, but then Jade begins laughing softly at their proximity - Summer’s eyes glance down to his lips. She has the sudden urge to kiss her. Resisting it almost proves too difficult and the only thing stopping Summer from asking Jade if she can kiss him is the step back she takes when it seems there are no more cast members walking by.
Or; After one of Summer’s school shows Jade is there with roses under the moonlight and he looks so pretty. Summer knows Jade acts differently when alone with her vs. surrounded by others but she ignores the reason why. She pretends it means more than it does, because it does, but Summer doesn’t want to acknowledge that just yet. Until she does.

Summary
Because loving Summer and loving Summer are two very distinct things in Jade’s mind - she’s loved Summer as a friend for a lot longer than he’s loved her as someone more but for some reason, admitting her love for Summer as something more seems to go nowhere, the words catching in his throat, even if she’s professing the same three words. Which is ridiculous, because Jade has said I love you to Summer before, they just haven’t meant as much as they do now. Before they were feelings captured in simplicity—Summer is Jade’s best friend, and he loves her so much—but now they are a confession, a promise at an altar where this phrase cements her devotion in an act that cannot be taken back.
Or; Jade Ngô and the version of herself that he presents at school just crumbling to pieces when she starts actually dating Summer. He becomes this tongue-tied, sappy, hopeless mess when she’s around her and Jade knows he’s never been more in love with anyone else. Now, she just needs to tell her.

Summary
Sometimes, even to this day, Jade cannot for the life of her believe he is in this situation—talking to, sitting with, and dating Summer Dileo—especially considering the vastly different social groups they belonged to when they had formally met in sophomore year. Where Summer’s clique, as the most popular, had been shone in the spotlight for the majority of that year, Jade mostly stuck to the shadows, still unclear of how to properly interact with anyone yet alone the Summer Dileo. Their worlds were so different Jade used to think they almost were oceans apart.
Or; Jade spends a lunch time reminiscing about how despite everything she falls for the most popular girl in school after the first performance of Summer’s that he saw. Jade traces this adoration she feels for Summer back to one sleep over where she fully realised just how in love he is with Summer.

Summary
Eventually, Summer Dileo will learn it is hard to feel alone in the world when there is someone as special as Jade Ngô who loves her so unquestionably that to feel alone despite the love she feels would be to suggests there is a universe out there where Prime’s sun and moon don’t ever eclipse. And that simply would not be true. So, Summer Dileo will forget what it is like to feel truly alone all because the moon couldn’t stop looking her way.
The first time this “un-loneliness” makes itself apparent on a school day like any other, on an empty stage in the Centurion High performing arts block.
Or; Maybe Jade Ngô fell for Summer Dileo first, but Summer Dileo fell for Jade Ngô much harder - she found a home with Jade that made her feel less alone. The funny thing is, despite how hard she fell, it still took her ages to be able accept this. In fact, it takes her a whole list of firsts to realise this—their first meeting, their first school camp, their first formal introduction, her first proper spiral about her feelings towards Jade, the first time she heard Jade perform, and the first time Summer realised Jade knows her, truly knows her—but it hits her eventually.

Summary
So, Summer doesn’t even think it logical to try and stop Jade from leaving on her mission—he’s not alone, Summer does the same thing, and she’s fighting for the right thing—why should Summer stop him? She doesn’t get to have control of Jade’s life. This thought still doesn’t calm the anxiety in her stomach that raises every time Jade sends Summer a text saying she’s heading out on patrol. Doesn’t stop her from staying up some nights—on the worst nights, where her anxiety is stuck in her throat and leaves a layer of what feels like cement in her stomach—waiting for a text that says he’s home safe.
Or; Summer has never truly liked how dangerous Jade’s vigilante work gets but she’s never been one to stop Jade from doing what she loves. It doesn’t stop Summer from getting anxious when Jade does his vigilante stuff alone. One day in particular, Summer wants Jade to stay—there’s something tugging at Summer’s chest telling her it’s too dangerous to let him go—but ultimately, she lets her leave anyway. Sometimes, Summer can’t help but blame herself for his death because she couldn’t make Jade stay…

Summary
Ruby and Jade were closer than just twins, they were the best of friends - always so lost in their own world together that nothing else really mattered. They were Jade and Ruby. Ruby and Jade. And nothing could ever come in the way of that. A younger Jade used to think there wasn't a single universe in existence where they weren’t twins. (This younger Jade would be right; in every universe they were twins—some happy, some sad—but they loved each other nonetheless).
Or; Jade and Ruby used to be really close, perhaps the closest twins in the world. And then their parents died and without them there, they had lost the ability to see eye to eye. They almost never recover from their conflict. Almost. Then Jade realises she desperately wants to tell Ruby he’s dating Summer; she just doesn’t think he has the words. So, she finds a piano piece to bridge the gap instead.

Summary
Summer is sick of trying to convince her. Jade can be a villain if he wants, Summer is not going to play her game, she’s not allowed to anyway. She’s not going to meet his every appearance as if they are chess pieces on the playing board of Rockfall and New Haven, “Cantrip” taking the first move and “Charm” the next. The Prime Force has decided someone is needed in Freedom City, and if Charm hasn’t been useful in taking down Cantrip thus far, she can be useful elsewhere. The once dynamic team will be separated by more than just sides, soon the gap will be 1000 miles wide.
Or; an exes hero/villain au where Summer doesn’t think her and Jade can go on together when their ideals are so separate: Summer wanting to be a part of the superhero system to help people and Jade warning to tear the system down entirely because it doesn’t actually care about the superheroes they hire. Despite being the one to leave, Summer can’t seem to let go of Jade; she’s been changed indefinitely… Yes, it hurts being something with Jade, but what they have together becoming nothing? That feels so much worse.

Summary
And here lies his current predicament. Because Jade Ngô hasn’t been popular in school for a while, not since middle school and her parents and their superhero status were the talk of the school. But they’re gone now, so high school has just been a matter of getting by: passing all his subjects, volunteering where she can, and doing whatever possible to stay hidden in the shadows (with a popular twin who wants nothing really to do with you, this is easy). Then in walks Summer Dileo…
Or; Jade and the frustration of being in love with your best friend who doesn’t like you back. She loves Summer so much and all of the love Jade feels won’t fit in his chest, it just burns, like a fire in the pit of her chest, and dramatically, Jade doesn’t know how to be friends with Summer anymore. All their friends are not amused. It takes all his friends intervening before she finally does anything.

Summary
Sometimes—read: more often than not—loving Summer Dileo comes intrinsically interwoven with the way Jade’s body works; with every beat of her heart Jade loves Summer, with every cycle his blood makes in her veins Jade loves Summer, with every copy of his DNA, loving Summer increases 10 times over. For Jade, to love Summer is to exist - as long as he is alive, Summer will never live unloved.
Or; Jade Ngô is so undeniably in love with Summer Dileo that sometimes she feels as though spending time with Summer is like spending time in a dream-like wonderland. He knows she is so infatuated with Summer Dileo that despite how cute they may be, it seems kind of ridiculous to all of their friends. Jade loves Summer anyway because that simply makes sense: there is not a universe in existence where Summer Dileo is not loved by Jade Ngô. That’s why in this universe, Jade plans to finally propose to her and he wants to make it perfect.

Summary
And here arises her second, and major reason frequenting the store so often: at the local record shop Summer makes her recurrent appearance, there is someone there she just can’t get off her mind.
The cashier of New Haven’s local record store has been on Summer’s mind since the first time she saw him. He wears plain black while he’s working, usually a black band hoodie with the hood drawn up, black jeans, and black boots and carries himself with just enough mystique that Summer wants to learn all about him. What’s more is that he wears a nondescript black mask that covers most of the features of his face aside from his brown bangs and his eyes. And Summer’s seen him up close, or as close as she can be from behind the other side of the register, his purple eyes are something to get lost in. Not that she has gotten lost in them! Not at all…
Or; The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All au where Summer’s queer awakening is Jade who works at the local music store and she kind of freaks out about it. As she talks to Jade more though, she falls suuuper dooper quickly and wishes they’ll be together forever :3

Summary
Jade Ngô, despite being the child of famous Prime superheroes, did not have a childhood surrounded by many people. For most of it, it was just him, her twin sister Ruby, his bà ngoại and ông ngoại, and when they weren’t busy being heroes, his má and ba.
Or; Jade Ngô didn’t have the most lively childhood, in fact, it was often for her to feel quite alone. There was a disconnect he felt growing up wishing the world were just a little bit kinder to her. Since then, Jade has grown so much: gotten tougher and more confident, done things he never imagined she’d do and is able to fight for what he believes in. Jade now wishes she could tell his younger self the person she ends up growing into and that he deserves the world, no matter what anyone else may think. Jade knows that now and she wishes his younger self did too.

Summary
Summer Dileo has never been the most interesting person. Don’t get her wrong, she definitely thought she was when she was younger, but as she’s grown up it’s been too easy to spot the signs of boredom in the people around her as she begins to speak. It’s too easy to see the false presentation of interest when she talks about something she likes, the sudden excuses of needing to leave when she starts to ramble, or sometimes even the look of “please shut up” that crosses over people’s features. Regardless of what happens, Summer Dileo is very familiar with the fact that most people, if not everyone, finds her boring.
Or; Summer Dileo struggles coming to terms with the idea that having passions and ranting about them does Not in fact make you a bore or vain as she’s been led to believe. It really just means she has passions and likes to rant about them. It takes her a long time for her to come to terms with this regardless…

Summary
Ever since Jade has grown up, she has always believed if he wished for anything hard enough it would come true. If she wished on every star outside his window and blew on every dandelion in her backyard and if he found a four-leaf clover in the garden and if she threw a lucky dime in a fountain, then any of his dreams will come true for sure and there was nothing in the world that could prevent them from happening. Not a stormy day, not a sickness, or a spell of bad luck. Jade simply has to believe in the wish with enough conviction and it will happen to her.
Or; Jade, ever since he was a child, has made wishes upon wishes to get or achieve the things she wants, it only seems logical for him to bring this same “wishful thinking” when she meets, and falls in love with, Summer Dileo.

Summary
It always goes like this, and Summer honestly shouldn’t be so surprised as to where she has ended up. She was so naive when she was younger to think people would love her for her and not anything they project onto her so of course Summer ditches this naivety now. Of course, she knows they only like the pretend Summer she shows everyone—the popular, funny, quiet and charming girl—of course they would all abandon her if she talked a little more, and opened up about the things she cares about.
Or; Summer Dileo and the innate fear of being alone and Summer Dileo growing up alone anyway because she was deemed “too weird”. Summer Dileo escaping this when she moves schools after transitioning and suddenly experiencing what it is like not to be alone. Summer feeling alone anyway because people only seem to like her because of her popularity and the act she puts on… She can’t really blame them. Summer Dileo hating that it is all her fault that people see her in this light of divinity
and Summer hating herself a little too. Summer feeling as if her popularity act was stripped away, people would be disappointed to know the real her… would Jade be disappointed to learn she’s not the goddess he dreams of?Series
