“Carter Horton didn’t have a problem. He definitely didn’t. (Or at least that’s what he told himself.)
Fine, he did have one…or two… or maybe a few…
But what problems could he have? He was a respected alpha at Mt. Abraham High School, he was a popular jock, he had a rather normal family. He even had a beautiful omega girlfriend, Terry — so what if they broke up from time to time due to arguments? All couples had their ups and downs, what matters is that they always got back together! So if Carter’s life was so good, what problem could he possibly have?
Well, his main problem manifested in the form of Alex Theodore Browning. An average kid, a high school “everyman”, Carter’s rival since middle school… and a beta.”

Night terrors haunt Alex for seemingly no reason, but he soon realizes Carter's recent weird actions could be connected to it, and nobody else seems to notice something is wrong with Carter, so he gives himself the task of figuring it out and maybe helping him along the way.
..That nightmare of Carter being a wolf doesn't mean anything, though, right?

Carter and Alex have been supposed rivals since their freshman year of high school. Petty fights, insults thrown back and forth, threats and meaningless arguments all come to an abrupt stop after an altercation in the locker room on a rainy day changes things between them, permanently.
Carter starts acting weird, Alex notices it and questions why. Emotions that both of them don't want to show start forcing their way into the spotlight, and the pressure to keep things between them under control is on.

After a long, tedious healing period, Carter can finally kiss Alex the way he's been dying to without worrying about his new tongue piercing. The metal is cool against his tongue, glinting brightly in the dark bedroom.
