Summary
"Sometimes…. Just sometimes wish I could write to them. Let them know I ain't dead." His thumb runs along Dallas' own. "Tell 'em I'm happy, that I love you."
That's an impulse that Dallas will never get completely, even if it's been decades. There have been times where Ponyboy's broken, cried after a reminder of his brothers: someone with Soda's smile, someone who had that sharp tone of Darry's or his build. Times where Ponyboy has woken from a nightmare and Dallas knows it's about how he had killed the Cade kid, Ponyboy momentarily tensing up, afraid before the rest of him remembered everything else. Even if they've become less, faded over time, he can't forget Ponyboy telling him that he couldn't make them stop.
He can't make the nightmares stop, can't stop feeling for his brothers, his parents.
It's 1983, in a small town in Texas. Ponyboy and Dallas ran anyway after Johnny Cade was killed and now, the law has come to collect them, whether they want to go or not.

Who thought that'd be him, doing that for a mate? That stories he hadn't believed — that having a mate could calm him, that being near them could really make him feel that he was exactly where he needed to be — were all true. All of it is real, Dallas feeling that calm he hadn't experienced until Ponyboy settling on him all at once as he watches.
A golden moment in 1981.

Summary
Mathews, Keith. “Tulsa Prison Blues.” Tulsa Monthly, 5 August 1983.
Eighteen years ago, Johnny Cade was found murdered in a park, with local heir Ponyboy Curtis missing and the suspect a known hoodlum, Dallas Winston. In April of 1983, Dallas was arrested in Mission, Texas in a desperate bid to save Ponyboy's life. Months later, amidst nasty litigation, bitter memories, and tragedies, Ponyboy and Dallas are still reaching towards each other in the darkness.

In Tulsa, Johnny Cade's body is getting colder and colder by the second — and Dallas and Ponyboy are hitching a ride out of town, to Jay Mountain to hide for as long as possible. Neither of them are prepared for the emotional fall out or how easy it is to fall in love with each other in their own Garden of Eden.

"No dress this time?" Dallas loves how Ponyboy's omega scent — never dancing on that edge of sweetness like most, muddled up in Dallas' own ever since they mated so long ago — is everywhere, loves how he recognizes it as home as he waits for Ponyboy to beckon him in. He leans against the door jamb, folding his arms, liking the way the St. Christopher glimmers on Ponyboy's bare chest. "Or you figure coming home to you naked as a bear was enough?"

"Winston! You have a visit from your legal counsel!" One of the older guards barks out from the door. Dallas frowns; the assholes probably sent another public defender who was going to hem and haw.

In 1983, Dallas meets with his legal counsel and is not expecting who he gets.

He used to think he knew the meaning of worn out — the feeling of unending grief on his shoulders weighing in on him every day, the monotony of having to go to endless parties he doesn't want to be involved in, the horrible dinners with Johnny's parents only broken up by the stiff dinners with Paul and Darry — as it turns out, no one really truly understands the meaning of that phrase until they've lived the same day for at least five years on.
Ponyboy is stuck in a time loop. It's not ideal when you're juggling your own murder, your husband's complicated history, and the want for someone else.

Summary
The moment his father walks out of the grocery store shaking his head, his hands in the pockets of his coat, Ponyboy knows that the cranberry sauce they're looking for wasn't found. He knows they should've expected this — that they wouldn't have found it at any of the big stores out here, that had Christmas food. It was a miracle that everything was still open for Christmas Eve anyway.
"What are we gonna do?" Ponyboy asks, moving over in the car as Dad opens the door and slides into the driver's seat. "Mama's gonna be real upset that we went all this way to get it and didn't find it."
Dad taps at wheel, half humming along with the radio as he thinks. "Well... I think we still have some options, my boy."
"Like what?" Ponyboy asks, wondering what kind of crazy plan his Dad was cooking up now. The moment an easy solution was off the table was the moment Dad did his best thinking. "We've been to every store they've got. What're we gonna do, go over on to Texas and look?"
Freshly home from his time at finishing school, Ponyboy and his Dad make a last minute run on Christmas Eve, 1956. Ponyboy meets the greaser Dallas Winston for the first time.

They have stated that a season three is on the way, but will be announced within the oncoming weeks.

Feels like I was a greaser born in the wrong body."
