Osamu’s fingers hesitate over the empty space where the book should be. His eyes trail along the shelves, and then further, drawn by something at the edge of his vision.
There, by the window, a book held open in steady hands. His book. Or at least, it would have been—if sharp eyes weren’t already scanning the pages, their focus unwavering.
Is it possible to recognize a person by their expression of focus? Because Osamu thinks he does.
The hair is longer than he remembers. A trick of the light, maybe. Or maybe… his stomach twists, just slightly.

Summertime in Tokyo feels like putting your face on top of boiling water but it’s your whole body, that’s what Bokuto said once. Even though Akaashi was scared for his friend’s well-being - really, you never know how close to the water Bokuto could decide to put his head - he can’t deny the fact. Summertime in Tokyo is pure hell.

Flutist Akaashi has spent his entire life striving for perfection. So when he entered high school and joined the concert band, he was prepared to do the same thing he had always done – practice, practice, practice. But concert band in high school tends to not always be about rule-following and discipline: it can often devolve into craziness. Now that Akaashi is in his second year, he has gotten better at balancing work with play, but makes a breakthrough one late practice night when the drumline starts playing a made-up beat during a break. In the end, Akaashi learns that working hard doesn’t necessarily mean you have to sacrifice your ability to have fun too (made clear by the tomfoolery occurring in the percussion section).
