Summary
Aru was born into a house of saints and ghosts. They never called it a cult. Not out loud. But his mother prayed like she was being watched, and his father preached like he knew he was. Every Sunday was fire and brimstone, every Wednesday study and sin. He was baptized before he could speak, told he was chosen before he could decide what that meant.
“God has a plan for you,” they said.
“But what if I don’t want it?” he asked.
They didn’t answer.
