Summary
For hundreds of years, Hunter has served as the Golden Guard: the Right Hand of the Emperor and the Sword and Shield of the Boiling Isles. His duty is first to serve and obey his Emperor and second to guard and protect the citizens of the Boiling Isles. Those were the oaths he swore when accepting the mantle of Golden Guard and he has strove faithfully to uphold them ever since.
For hundreds of years, Hunter has watched his uncle lose himself more and more to a dark and deadly curse. He swore no oath to stop it and Uncle would never ask him to. But then, he never needed to. Hunter decided long ago he would find a way to free his uncle, no matter the cost.
And if that means working part time for the most notorious criminal on the Boiling Isles and being dragged on idiotic adventures by a human who is way too enamored with wild magic? Then Hunter can manage to swallow his pride and suffer their chaotic shenanigans.
After all, it's just until he finds a way to break the curse.

Summary
The Golden Guard has been raised in the Titan's image all his life. He has always striven to fulfill His will, as told by His Mouthpiece, his uncle. Life has not been easy, but he's never expected it to be when following the righteous path.
And then he and his uncle are captured. Separated from Belos, the Golden Guard will do whatever it takes to free him so they can return to fulfilling the Titan's will—even if it means playing along with a "therapist" and giving himself a "name" and attempting to make "friends;" he'll do whatever it takes to get their guards down.
The only problem with this plan is that he wasn't expecting to like going along with his captors.
[Or, another Hunter-is-raised-in-a-cult-and-then-gets-rescued-while-Belos-goes-behind-bars AU, except this time the cult is in the Demon Realm.]

When Hawks closed the balcony door and took flight, Hunter let go of the staff, and Flapjack returned to his palisman form, resting uncertainly on Hunter’s shoulder, fidgeting with his little talons. Waves of worry washed over him, mingling with his own fears.
“I have to know,” Hunter said, switching out his casual workout clothes for his Golden Guard armor. The familiarity of it was a strange sort of comfort right now as he fell back into his training. “It’ll be okay, Flap. This isn’t my first stealth op.”
