When Severus heard the Prophecy of a baby born in late July, he sent a letter to his best friend, warning her that her pregnancy may be cursed. The newly pregnant Lily, engaged to James Potter, warned the other pregnant woman in the order, due around the same time as her. Lily & James got married quickly, left The Order, and went into hiding-- they even sent a letter to the Dark Lord waving their proverbial white flag. Yet, Halloween of 1981 still happened, as did Christmas of 1985. James Potter and Lily Potter-Evans were dead, while Frank Longbottom and Alice Fortescue were tortured to insanity. Harry was still sent to live with the Dursley's, and Neville still went to live with his grandmother.
