Catra isn't to thrilled with the assignment having never wanted to return, while Peridot is reluctant to settle down anywhere having lived a life on the road ever since she had become a hunter, but a jobs a job and they had their orders.
Etheria Valley is just as known for its natural beauty as well as weird and strange happenings and Catra and Peridot will soon find just how deadly their new hunting gig was going to be. They also hadn't counted on the very real complication people would bring into their lives and job.

Bismuth tried not to be upset. Despite the communicative nature of the new Crystal Gems, in her experience with them being upset wasn’t quite allowed. Ironically it was frowned upon. Because there was of course always a resolution, a conversation, a hug that could at least alleviate the stressors one might be experiencing.
Like being left for almost dead for the remainder of a war you’d dedicated your life to, like being treated as lesser than an enemy that had clearly stated ill intent upon your team and sworn her alliance to the Diamonds continuously up to and far past the moment she’d been bubbled, like being expected to seamlessly adapt to and partake in a wedding environment for a team that didn’t want you after lifetimes of history.
Bismuth thought a hug from Biggs would do her wonders.

As someone who went through years of childhood trauma and then years of mental health treatment, I wanted to explore the process of Steven actually working through stuff and originally planned for it to end right before the final SU episode, but then I began to expand in things that were happening to where it's essentially an alternate reality and never gets to the situation of that last episode.
Starting the morning after "I Am My Monster", Steven Universe goes to therapy, learns methods to cope, works through issues and learns new things about himself. He felt her finger play with one of his curls which in turn made a shiver go down his spine. It's been a while since someone has played with his hair.
