He’s hunched over a box - Reo’s so-called filing system, more of a graveyard for forgotten paperwork than anything organized. His gaze lifts, slow and deliberate, and when his eyes meet Reo’s, they are wide, unblinking, utterly unreadable. "What is this?" Reo's gaze immediately catches onto the once-sharp kanji now smudged, a ghost of what it once was.
Reo's stomach plummets. Ice floods his veins. "I—I can explain," he blurts, the words tumbling over each other, frantic, desperate. He moves to grab Nagi’s wrist, to stop this from spiraling, but Nagi jerks away, recoiling as if burned. His back hits the wall, and the space between them suddenly feels insurmountable. Moisture stings at the corners of Reo’s eyes, but he blinks it away. Not now. Not when everything is crumbling in front of him. Not when Nagi is looking at him like that. "Nagi, please," his voice cracks, raw and pleading. "You have to let me explain. Please."
But Nagi doesn't move. Doesn't blink. "Our friendship... everything... was just conditional to you?"
