Summary
Holly had definitely been confused at the contract that Augurous had handed her, but seeing as how she was getting stir crazy inside of Megaton, it made sense that Augurous would want somebody to look after her. This “Charon” was certainly a hell of a choice, too. He was a full head taller than her, maybe two, and without the skin to cover it he truly did look like he was all muscle. She’d been nervous heading out of town, deciding to go North in the direction of Arefu or Big Town as a taste test before she would make her way to Underworld.

Summary
“Do you like it?” she asks, taking the yellow-print fabric of her sundress between her fingers.
“Yes,” Charon says. And then, almost like it pains him to say aloud, to express his feelings— “You look very pretty.”
“Thank you, Charon,” she says, and then to show her appreciation that he’s trying to be more vocal— for her, for their son— she raises up on her toes to kiss his mouth. When she settles down, she plays with the string at her breasts, holding the top closed with a bow she’d tied just below the halter top. “I thought it might be good to have something easy to remove,” she says. “To make it easier to feed Jamie, and,” she says, tugging the knot free, her breasts spilling over, “his Daddy.”

Summary
“Why do you want to go there?” Charon asks, leaning forward. There’s nothing that place can potentially tell her about his contract that he can’t. He doubts the records of a two-century old base will be able to tell her more about the redacted aspects of his contract than he can, which is, admittedly, very little.
He’d rather her just say what she wants to know. If she wants something specific, she can just tell him to do it. If he can’t, or won’t, or doesn’t want to— he’ll tell her.
She looks at him funny. Like he should already know this. “Charon,” she says, “I’m going to break your contract.”

Summary
The changing hands of his contract had been so sudden, but after riding the high of shooting Ahzrukhal (once for the look on his fucking face, twice for the sound of his flesh crashing violently against the walls of the bar), Charon had become quite accustomed to playing bodyguard for this weirdo. All of Brutus’ bullshit with family and vault trauma, not Charon’s place - but he’ll be there with gun-in-hand until the kid is ready to collapse.
Or, the angsty intimacy between a neurotic lone wanderer and his bodyguard.

Summary
Lillian Flanagan, a fiercely independent Scollay Square lounge singer, experiences her life torn to pieces three times over. Pre-war America rapidly declines just before the world itself is ravaged in a nuclear nightmare, just for her to wake up 210 years later and face an irradiated wasteland with her brother's fascist wife. In her desperate search for her missing family, she finds that her pre-war home is still a thriving community, now lead by a dangerously charismatic ghoul.
Leonora Parker-Flanagan, a US Army lawyer, at least on the record, knows that her husband is drifting away from her. When she wakes from 210 years of cryogenic sleep to find him missing, she assumes that he finally found a way to leave with their son. Nothing in the wasteland, not even the worthless sister-in-law she woke up alongside of, can stop her warpath to find her baby. Throughout her journey, the horrors she helped commit, and their lasting impacts on the modern wasteland, are slowly revealed.

Summary
It strikes him then what it must be. He’s not sure why it settles uncomfortably in his gut as he tells her, “It looks like your mark is coming in.”
“What’s a mark?” she asks.
“What, they don’t have soulmates in your vault?” Charon says, on reflex, a snort.
She’s silent.
When his eyes flick up to her, her eyes are wide. She reaches around to spread her fingers across her ribcage. She swallows, and then shakes her head.
Oh, fuck.

Soulmate au. The Lone Wanderer's vault doesn't have soulmates. But, apparently, she does.

It happened slowly. Like the soft buzz he had felt in his bones when he started to turn. Before he could realize his body was changing his skin was already falling off. He hadn’t even noticed how cold the metro was at night.
Multi-part fic to be updated.

That’s not such a terrible thing, is it? To love someone, and to be loved in return?
—
James lives au. He works alongside his daughter at the purifier while her companion works as a caravan guard. Getting a glimpse of them together, he thinks about what he used to want for her, before their world was upended.

Summary
To Butch DeLoria, there was no shadow greater than that of the Lone Wanderer. Drifting through the Wasteland as freely as the wind and as far as the road would take her -- the Wanderer was as a fabled hero to the Wastes as she was an enigma to the few remaining in her life. There was never any telling when would be the last time the Wasteland saw of the Lone Wanderer… until that day had finally come.
It would be the last night Butch saw her again, for real this time. She knew this all along. Though had he’d known, then maybe he would have been more honest with her about their relationship from the start.
A story about a naive boy desperate to bring new meaning to his life and a girl desperate to forget the life she once had. A blooming relationship amidst a growing tragedy.

A closer look at the pain ghouls go through, whether it's from when they're human and before they turned, after they've become a ghoul, or that strange time between those two states of being.

Summary
“It’s just— what’s the point? I did all of this, and there’s no one left for me. Dad is gone, and the vault is closed off, and you don’t even want me anymore.”
Charon sighs. Not this again. “You don’t want me. You’re just—”
“Stop saying that,” she says, arms crossed. “I know it’s fucked up. I know you’re not a good person. A good person wouldn’t have—” she says, and she doesn’t have to finish the sentence for him to know what she means. “But I still don’t like the idea of you leaving.”
—
Charon’s never been a particularly good man. He’d enlisted for the fat sign-on bonus the government had promised rather than any misguided sense of patriotism. Still, he’d been a good soldier. Always followed orders.
It’s too bad for his new employer, the slip of a girl from the vault, that he’s not a bodyguard. He’s a soldier. If she wants a bodyguard, she has to pay up. And Charon can be bought with the usual vices— chems, alcohol, smokes, and women.
