Cinta knows, theoretically, that she can reach out to Vel. Explain the distance in the year since Ferrix. The wedding. But instead she grasps the protocols Luthen and Kleya have created as the life line to keep her focused on the unending fight against the Empire and turns her away.
It takes her only a second to regret it. But that’s already too late. Vel has stepped into the slippery arena of Imperial affairs and Cinta thinks she might lose her mind.
