Summary
After the incident at his school, Pico was deemed guilty, he had been the only one found holding a weapon when the police arrived, and Cassandra had vanished without a trace. His friends did their best to explain what had truly happened, but the authorities refused to believe them. In the end, Pico was sent to a juvenile detention center, where he would remain for an entire year.
His release came thanks to his adoptive father, Tankman, who fought tirelessly on his behalf. Even so, freedom came with conditions. Pico was required to attend therapy, a mandate he met with reluctance. Yet, after several long and difficult sessions, he gradually began to open up to his therapist, who then suggested he try expressing his thoughts in a diary.
At first, Pico dismissed the idea as pointless. But after a few days of silent resistance, he picked up a pen and decided to give it a chance.

This is basically how I interpret Boyfriend and Pico (in my au) getting together.
Uhhhh, some notes about my au (trust it's not that much):
- Pico's School takes place while they're all freshmen, cuz I wanted it to be a mixture of both confirmed ages by MindChamber (13) and Tom Fulp (old enough to be in high school.)
- They start their freshman year in 1998, then the shooting happens in April 1999, and the gang comes back to school around October 1999 (when they're sophomores.)
- Boyfriend is Japanese/American (referencing the fact that he was canonically supposed to be related to HATSUNE MIKU) and his name is Hatsune Kareshi. Fun fact: Kareshi means Boyfriend in Japanese!!
- Also, Boyfriend was sent to a white family at a young age by his own parents, so that's why he acts like a white boy and doesn't get beat like a typical Asian kid. -

The three form the Newgrounds Trio, staging an epic breakout in order to escape the walls that hold them, causing chaos and utter destruction as they move throughout the city, guns, knives, and lighters wielded, forming a unique bond keeping them all together despite their trauma.

Alucard had been keeping an eye on Hanzou over the course of the process due both to how easily something could go wrong and the fact that they hadn't been coping too well. Nightmares, panic attacks, you know the deal. Coming to terms with their own mortality. Or maybe the lack of it.
Cyclops didn't know shit about that sort of thing, but he did know about prosthetic fittings sucked, so he figured he was educated enough to empathize if he tried.
Anyway, because of all that, it was striking Cyclops as kind of off that he hadn't seen Hanzou, nor had he seen any implication that Alucard was taking care of them. They were supposedly recovering, but not particularly fast or well, and he had no idea if they were even capable of getting up to get their own food or not.
... Shit. If no one had been checking up on them all day, that could be really bad.
