Dean had been down this road enough times to know his disappointment would only cut deeper and deeper every time he made it out of a hunt alive, and no matter how hard he tried, he could not ignore the dark pit of despair that had opened up inside him since Cas's sacrifice three weeks ago.

That’s how long it took for Dean to figure out how to get into the Empty and get Cas the Hell out of there. After countless hours of research, a few trips to Hell to talk to Rowena, and a couple called in favors, it was finally ready. A spell, well two really, that would allow Dean into the Empty to get Cas out. It was complicated, and they weren’t entirely sure it was even going to work. Rowena was confident, Sam was less so. Dean didn’t care one way or another.
