Summary
With Tain dead in the attack on the Founders' homeworld, Garak's position on the station is less stable than ever. He needs some kind of anchor on the station, some reason for someone to defend his presence there--and he's certain Sisko doesn't know that it's possible for male Cardassians to become pregnant. Bastard children aren't the kind of reputation-ender in the Federation as they are on Cardassia, but fathering a child on Garak... Sisko wouldn't want that known. Neither would he want to abandon his child. All Garak has to do is lure Sisko to his bed a few times and he'll have the perfect reason for Sisko to want to keep him safe on the station...

Julian braced himself. The holoprogram was all just a fantasy. In theory, it was not truly revealing of his inner psyche. So he should have nothing to hide. Still, it felt a little difficult to look Garak in the eye and tell him exactly what had happened that day, especially when Garak was smiling at him so knowingly.
(Julian recounts to Garak the events of an AU version of the episode “Our Man Bashir,” in which Garak's appearance was uploaded into the holoprogram along with the others.)

With political tensions rising and some unsavoury characters snooping around the station, resident tailor Garak needs to warn Starfleet and fast otherwise there will be disastrous consequences for the whole station. The only problem is, he can’t seem to get Starfleet to trust him, so what he needs is a contact to act as a go-between. But with all these new Starfleet personnel arriving, he only has a limited time to find the right contact and save the station.
