Summary
The heated sand warmed the soles of Thane's feet, as he surveyed the vast ochre dunes of the Intaiseikatsu desert. The picturesque sweeps and curves awed him with their monotone beauty. He tried to keep his face schooled in it's customary stoic mask, but his sheer delight broke through decades of training. Beside him, Feron flopped down into the sand, sending particles up into the light breeze. Thane smiled, and sedately joined his friend; laying back on the warm sand, he memorised the way the grains ran like water down the dune. Just a few months ago, Thane would never have pictured this was where life would take him... that he would find so much peace. He was under no illusion. It was all thanks to Shepard.

I'm working to bring my three main Mass Effect stories into one major piece. This part focuses on the interlude between ME2 and ME3, which includes my previous works "Legacy of Heroes" and "This Ones Heart is Pure", but mostly the latter.

Shepard stalked through the grimy streets of Omega towards Afterlife's VIP area. It was after midnight, and she'd waited in the main club for Feron too long; she'd had enough. She was going go drink too much then pull someone else. She was going to forget him completely... or that was her plan, before she unexpectedly came face to face with the drell in question.
Author's note:
This is an updated version of a fic I wrote back in 2019 as part of an iPod Shuffle Challenge; the idea was to have songs come on at random, and to write short scenes only during the duration of the song. I've tried to reordered the pieces to make a more cohesive story, but have not added anything additional to the 'chapters'.

The mission may have been a success, but it had still been stressful, and Jayne Shepard... Alliance captain and Council spectre... needed the shore leave just as much as her crew did. She'd propped up the bar most of the evening, flirting up a storm with the turian bartender she was certain she would be taking home; until a distinctive, rainbow scaled drell caught her attention.
