Colin and Penelope already had a bad encounter when she heard those awful words he said about her at the Featherington ball. It hurt her feelings deeply. But how bad was she hurt? How did Colin react once he realized she was not responding to his letters? In this story we go in depth on their feelings through that fallout and how were they able to fix what was broken.
Later on, when they finally amend their friendship Colin takes it upon himself to assist Penelope in her search for a suitable husband, offering her guidance through a series of private lessons. However, when word of their secret arrangement spreads throughout society at the Danbury Ball, Penelope is left feeling humiliated and ashamed. After the scandalous rumors reach their peak thanks to Lady Whistledown, Colin visits Penelope to see how she is coping with the gossip and hearsay. To his dismay, she accuses him of betraying her confidence and revealing their agreement, wounding him deeply with her lack of trust. Struggling with the sting of her accusation, Colin's frustration rises, but Penelope only intensifies the situation by issuing a challenge. -
