Summary
War is all Castiel and Dean Winchester have ever known. The former locked in a civil war that began with Lucifer's rebellion had not ceased since. The other, forced by his father into a fight against the darkest forces the world has to offer without the chance of winning, eventually descended into the deepest parts of Hell for a father, who doesn't even appreciate the sacrifice. One craves order and control, the other the power to carve his own path. Maybe they can help each other... that is, if they are strong enough.

Summary
Dean is never gentle with himself, and rarely gentle with other things. His brother (sometimes), his weapons (if he’s not attacking), children, photographs, glass bottles when he sets them down, fruit when he’s picking it up, sexual partners just before he leaves (if they’re asleep). It’s tiny moments that only add up to a single year out of Dean’s thirty-three. And never with himself. He’s not gentle with his wounds, or cleanliness, or this.
When Dean takes himself in hand, it’s roughly. If Castiel was in his vessel, he would force gentleness on Dean. He thinks he could make him cry from it. And it would be beautiful because Dean’s eyes always get brighter with tears, and when he’s not clenching his jaw through it he makes soft sounds that would mix well with pleasure.

Castiel returned from the Pit, having ensured that Sam was back and alive, Dean contented and at peace (for the most part) only to discover that Raphael, the sole remaining archangel topside, has not been idle in the time since his brothers’ fall. Raphael has made it clear that he’s committed to getting the apocalypse back on track, giving Castiel no choice but to ally with Crowley, the new King of Hell, to stop the end of days all over again and make it so the sacrifices of Team Free Will were not in vain.
