She could see Touya’s shoulders relax, as if he was happy with the result too. With a faint smile that peeked out before he schooled his face into a neutral expression, he said, “Alright, then. Goodbye, Hoshino-san.”
With that, he left, so quietly that Ichika could have made herself believe that their whole encounter was just a dream. That the boy with the split blue hair and the eyes of silver was nothing more than a concoction of her imagination, so desperate for human contact that it created one on its own. She hugged her book tighter to herself and clutched her phone like a lifeline, the white screen listing only one name: Touya Aoyagi.
(With the slightest tap of her finger, she pressed the little heart next to his contact, adding it to her otherwise empty favorites list. It was a spot fit for a king, the home of the one who would bring the stars back to her eyes, who would take her shattered irises and close the gaps with golden paint.)
