Summary
After many years in Heaven, Aziraphale had unlearnt his habit of sleep. Once Aziraphale had returned to Earth, he had found himself often restless during the night. There was no place in Heaven for bodily attachments. Human habits cultivated over centuries took but a few years to be undone.Once familiar comforts had now become foreign. Once instinctual habits had now become unusual. Often, Aziraphale could not believe that he was here again, on Earth, under the starry diamond sky. Even the cool starry sky of the South Downs evening could not soothe Aziraphale’s mind. The rustling of leaves and the scent of the sea could not ease him. The quiet night invited many ruminations of regret.
Aziraphale had left Crowley for a Pyrrhic stalemate as Supreme Archangel. Yet, Crowley had forgiven him. Yet, Crowley was willing to share this home with him. What exactly had been the purpose of Aziraphale’s departure? What gain had Aziraphale achieved in forsaking Crowley? How could Crowley stand to look at him, still, even though Aziraphale had wronged him, again and again?

Summary
Crowley arrives at the Johnson Space Center, where he will train for a year to prepare for six months aboard the International Space Station. He is excited. Ready to reach the nebulas. Even though his past military trauma overshadows everything he does. Chaplain Aziraphale, hired three years ago for the brand-new NASA chaplaincy program, finds caring for the astronauts to be a breath of fresh air. Especially since NASA is the latest of a long line of failed parishes in a career directed by his brother, Gabriel.
Their paths collide when Crowley, after suffering a panic attack in a simulation, stumbles into the orbit of Chaplain Aziraphale. Crowley finds unexpected solace and acceptance in their relationship, and Aziraphale begins to believe he can be more than the subservient chaplain his family expects. It remains to be seen whether they can truly find their way together through the stars.

Meanwhile, Aziraphale Fell, current Assistant Parliamentary Secretary, has stumbled into an environmental disaster that no one seems to want to deal with– or is a cover-up? Could the Environment Secretary even be involved? Could this really be part of Her (Margaret Thatcher's) Plan?
Why do Crowley and Fell keep running into each other– literally? Is it just romantic fate bringing together two middle aged "confirmed bachelors" who thought it was too late to find love, or is there some other connection? Can they figure it out? (Are they sure they want to?)

It’s unseasonably warm for East Finchley in late December, but his breath still leaves puffs in the chilly air. It’s cloudy, and already full dark at 17:00, so there aren’t any stars to look at and the moon isn’t visible. Pity.
Just then - a bright flash lights up from the back garden next door. It’s a man, standing in front of a free-standing fire pit, having just lit a fire. The warm glow illuminates his face in profile and Crowley leans on the railing to get a better look. White-blond curly hair puffs up around his head like a halo. The firelight silhouettes a cute upturned nose, a sturdy frame wrapped in a thick cardigan. Crowley can practically see his eyelashes from here. He’s beautiful.
“Oi! You there! Got a light?” Crowley shouts across at him.
The man turns in his direction, obviously not able to see him in the shadows. “Me?”
“Yeah, you!”
The man turns to look at the fire in front of him, then back to peer into the shadows again, “If you need, I suppose?”
“Excellent!”

“Manners,” Crowley scoffed. He set his glass down, hovering within striking distance of that irresistible cologne and the heat of Aziraphale’s neck. “What you need is someone to wreck you. Someone to rip off all those buttons and properly rattle your bones so you remember that you’re alive.”
Anger sparked in Aziraphale’s eyes, their colour a tempest of blue and grey, a stormy sea a man could drown in. He pursed his lips, then spoke, that deep and sonorous tone rippling over Crowley again. “And you need discipline.”

Misunderstandings multiply, too many people get involved in everyone else’s business, and unholy amounts of alcohol are consumed.
