Summary
Trapped in a limbo state between life and death, the Ferryman takes on the task of bringing the souls of the dead to their final destination, motivated more by fear of the unknown than self-sacrifice. When his ship is destroyed by a beast from the depthless seas, he is rescued by an archangel, Gabriel, who mans one of the many lighthouses that keep darkness at bay, powered by a spark of the Father's flame.
The debt of a life saved is not so easily repaid, but the Ferryman is determined to do so, despite Gabriel's strange avoidance and increasingly secretive behaviour. As creatures in steel skin creep from the mists at night, their desperation for blood palpable, the Ferryman determines to follow Gabriel to the ends of the earth, no matter how terrible of an end the archangel carves for himself.

Jiāng Wǎnyín’s lurch forward with Zǐdiàn was halted in the flash of that oh so familiar voice.
Backlit by the dim evening light appeared Wèi Wúxiàn, his sect brother, in unfamiliar robes with a plain confusion plastered across his features. He was paler and gaunter than Jiāng Wǎnyín had seen him in years, hair down and tangled, the cut of his changru ill fitting across his narrow shoulders. Draped in garments massively different from the tight fitting silhouette of the banbi he typically wore, his layers of robes were a mixture of too short and far too long- crusted along the edges with ruddy stain.
“Jiāng Chéng…“, he was drawn from his thoughts, “so you finally decided to wake up and eat something or do you plan to sleep five more shíchén?”
“ This isn’t Yílíng- where are we?”
“No, no, it is,” Wèi Wúxiàn’s smile grew tense as he spoke. His eyes darted across Jiāng Wǎnyín’s face, seemingly accessing his manor before continuing.“We’re just in the Luànzàng Gǎng.”
