His nails were digging into the back of his neck because then at least it was a physical sensation, something to tether him to a reality he just wanted to put on hold, and tears were running down his face except he could barely feel them for the tingling all over his body, that he was sure was a warning sign come too late. He could feel warmth pooling around where his nails pressed in yet he couldn’t stop because at least this way he had proof he was alive.
