Summary
Set 3 years after the battle of Rio, Earth has returned to a fragile peace. Titan attacks have lessened, but humanity still distrusts the titans after the damage they've all caused. Monarch still avidly defends the Titans, but not without classifying some as threats.
Godzilla, ever present, hasn't stopped protecting nature's balance and defending Earth, even as it takes a toll on his body.
A mysterious new faction called ARES enters the fray, claiming to be a black-ops division of Monarch. Under the surface though, they aren't who they claim to be. They study the Kaiju and any threats to earth, promising protection using massive mechs called Jaegers.
That fragile peace is shattered when a massive object from space crashes down, killing thousands and sending Earth into overdrive.
Another threat is growing beneath the surface however. A being of death and decay. A creature so vile, so terrifying, not even the Iwi prophesized it. It doesn't want vengeance. It just wants to kill, and drag everything into hell with it.
And below that, a species of alien invaders come down, offering protection. Their motives, however, are far from altruistic. They've been here longer than anyone's ever realized.

“Yes sir,” he muttered, mutinous, eyes blazing. And Chuck hadn’t had time to process this, hadn’t- he was going to have to drift with Raleigh. He was going to get to—have to—drift with Raleigh. Oh holy hell.
And Raleigh hated the idea. Of course he did, Chuck could hardly expect differently. He himself was pissed, actually, because he didn’t want Raleigh in his head. Chuck might, possibly, be in love with Raleigh Becket, but that didn’t mean he had to like him. And he didn’t. Raleigh was an entitled, self-absorbed ass. Chuck did not want to do this. But, he also didn’t have a choice. What else was new, huh?

Pentecost nodded before turning away from the wall. “You know, I can always tell which drivers are in it for the long run. I’d like to say it’s what makes me a good Team Principal.”
“How’s that?” Raleigh asked, eyes still glued to the picture of him and Chuck. He didn’t smile much anymore, always cross in the press conferences. Raleigh wondered what had happened to the grinning teen he used to know.
“There’s this look in their eyes.”
He cast a glance over his shoulder at Pentecost and found the Marshal already gazing at him.
“You asked why I’m here?”
“Yes, especially when you know what…what I was like.”
Pentecost smiled, “That look is still in your eyes, Raleigh. I’m here to offer you a second chance.”

At 25, Raleigh is on track to winning his first World Championship, competing head-to-head with his brother. And then Hungary happens, and everything comes crashing down.
Two years later, after another disastrous crash, Stacker Pentecost seeks him out again and asks for a favor.
Between Chuck Hansen, the media, and the memories of his past being dredged up, things are bound to come crashing down.

A grin found its way onto Chuck’s face, the irritation momentarily pushed aside, “Will we be able to go on active duty again, then?”
Herc winced, hand clenching into a fist at his side. “Son…the Marshal is bringing Raleigh Becket in.”
Or: Herc is injured two months before Mutavore, and Raleigh happens to be his replacement. At least until Gipsy Danger is repaired. The only issue? Chuck Hansen.
