Summary
Jimmy was used to the pain. When he’d first started coming to the over-city, he’d been a kid. First year of high school he’d still been small. Still shorter than both Grian and Pearl, who’d towed him along into the sunlight. Back then, he’d been able to fold his wings into the tight column against his back and hold them there easily. It hadn’t been the most comfortable thing in the world, but he’d slowly started to get used to it.
Then he’d hit a growth spurt.
And alongside the suffering of backaches more severe than either of his cousins suffered, not like he intended to let them in on that, was the reality of six cheap pleather belts he'd bought at a thrift store when he was seventeen. And now? With the sky above his head and the sky across the table from him, with hair fluffy like spun sugar, it was even more so. A twisted feather and some phantom knives in his wing roots weren't going to slow him down.
Because Scott and the sky were both worth it.
{In which Jimmy weighs the pros and cons of stripping in his office, Scott isn't in the loop, but he's got the spirit, and hey, at least the bakery had bar-height tables.}
