Javert hates working at the university. The kids are nearly impossible to work with and the other teachers are just as stupid. When a new professor comes to join the university, Javert thinks he’ll go mad once and for all.

this is my first fic! it's been super fun to write, and it's quite wacky and random, hopefully it'll be super fun to read too. it's a les mis modern high school au and there are literally thirteen main characters... so yeah. ships aren't the main part of it, but yknow I do love the ships! also, the extent to which all of the ships listed above will, like, actually happen will probably vary. and Neopets (awesome online games-and-stuff website) is slightly involved but if you know nothing about Neopets it'll probably be fine.
title is from the AJR song The Good Part, doesn't super specifically relate to the fic but I just love the vibe lmao
edit: title used to be "can we skip to the good part?" as mentioned above but I changed it to "i think we're still turning out", which is basically a lyric from the AJR song Turning Out except it's originally "i think i'm still turning out", cus i thought it fit better this way (and that this title makes a lot more sense with the fic than that lyric did)

Enjolras really shouldn't be working right now. He has like 5 papers due and a speech to write.
But it's raining and the guy that just came in is unfairly sexy.
Enjolras doesn't not hope he will return.
This is a lie.
Enjolras really hopes he comes back.
~~~
“Enj-ol-ras…” Courfeyrac purrs out, and his husband just watches him, not saving Enjolras in the slightest. “You have something you want to tell the class?”
Enjolras turns red again, if he wasn’t still. He crosses his arms and turns away.
“No. I will kick you out.” He hisses out, and is all too aware he is caught.
“Then let me be kicked out, for I have never seen you so besotted! I have never seen you ooh or ahh as such, and I will spread this new holy gospel to all in the land!”
Summary
Night falls on the barricade, and despair weighs heavily on everyone. Some turn to drinking and toasting, others to singing... and Grantaire has a meltdown. In the midst of this, he and Enjolras share an honest conversation—perhaps for the first time.
or
How each of Les Amis cope with the unfolding events, with a particular focus on Enjolras and Grantaire.
or
An attempt to combine the chapter of The Brick "Night begins to descend upon Grantaire" with the song "Drink with me" from the musical, imagining Enjolras and Grantaire being able to talk to each other for once.
What happens when the characters of Les Misérables try to put on a performance of the musical Notre Dame de Paris (directed by me)? Reluctant singing (Enjolras), PTSD (Fantine), getting carried away with a role (Javert), and obligatory Enjonine, just to name a few.
Summary
Musichetta is blushing quite prettily, so Bossuet must take the lead to speak. “My love, may we speak with you?”
“Of course.” Joly stands, finding his lovers to be standing closer to him than expected. “Is something the matter?”
“No, no, of course not.” Bossuet clears his throat, then takes Joly’s hand. “We simply…” He seems to lose the correct words, and looks to Musichetta.
“What he wishes to say,” Musichetta starts, “is that we have been speaking with your friends and confessed to them our interest in… well, our interest in entering into marriage with you.”
With great power, comes great liability.
...Or, something like that. Grantaire has powers, and isn't keen on using them for the greater good - he'd much rather steal booze and escape the cops with them. His mind changes when he notices a certain revolutionary in red preaching passionately in the square, determined to make a change.
(yes, the title is a David Bowie reference)
This is the story of how I died. Don't worry, this is actually a very fun story. And the truth is, it isn't even mine. This is the story of a man, named Enjolras. And it starts, with the sun.
Summary
If she had just a drop more motivation in her body, Éponine would have been incensed by the finality with which Combeferre spoke; she was just so done with men telling her how the world works when they themselves have absolutely no clue. But he was a good person who meant nothing by it and, in hindsight, she could concede that he’d been nothing but nice to her all night and it wasn’t his fault that everything was pushing her — bit by bit — closer to the edge.
Yeah, it hadn’t been a great week.
Fuck it. It had been a shit year. The fact that it was only April be damned, she thought to herself as she collapsed back into the sofa with a resigned sigh.
OR
Gavroche decides sleeping on a park bench is preferable to sleeping in his parents' house and Ép decides that is the final straw. Featuring queer platonic ép/ferre, found family, and a fake engagement for the real estate portfolio.
This is a part of an ongoing series but, if you're loosey goosey about context feel free to read it as a standalone.
Grantaire really doesn't like weird Coffee Shops and runs his singular friend sends him on. Black coffee too.
Then it's not so bad.
Okay maybe it's kind of cool.
Or maybe it's just the pretty guy behind the counter.
~~~
Enjolras returns, handing him his drink as Grantaire reaches to pay. Enjolras puts a hand out.
“Don’t. On me today. You clearly need it.” He tells Grantaire, who looks at him like he really is an angel.
Of course, Grantaire does not mean to say that outloud. Of course, Grantaire does anyway.
“Angel in Paris behind a register.” He mutters as he turns, hair still matted with rain to his head. For the third time in his life, he has failed to catch how Enjolras turns ever so slightly pink at something he has said or done.
~~~
5 times Grantaire ends up in L'ABC Cafe and leaves without Enjolras' number, and the 1 time he leaves with it. (Granted he has help.)
Summary
One time was a hate-fuck, and that was something Grantaire could understand. He was easy to hate. Two times… that was, well. He wasn’t entirely sure. Two times with a drunken love confession? That was something sinister and fucked-up and positively doomed. Add in squatting in the same living room together for five hours a day, every day… it was a hot mess.
Where Enjolras and Grantaire learn that they have much more in common than they have different. It just takes them a while.
Summary
Grantaire moved to Berlin five years ago. He's happy, he gets to be a painter, he has a group of friends whom he adores, he's a well-adjusted adult living his dream life. The best part is, he still keeps in touch with all the Amis. They visit regularly and call often, they didn't stop being a presence in his life just because he's not in Paris anymore.
There is only one person that hasn't visited. For years, it formed a hole in his chest. After some time, he realised he may never fill that hole, but that maybe that was okay, that he could let bad things happen to him and not get stuck in misery. That he didn’t have to let life happen to him just because of the boy he fell in love with at 18.
So when he saw the text at the top of his phone screen he had to steel himself on the pavement and rub at his eyes to make sure he was seeing right. He didn’t feel like the lovestruck 18 year old he was when they met, or even like the hurt and resentful 23 year old he was when he left. He just felt the cold breeze, and half-stared at his phone.
Enjolras [17:03]: Hello Grantaire, it's Enjolras. I will be in Berlin next week - do you know any good hotels around the city centre? Thank you.
