Gandalf is worried and decides to take action by persuading the elves of Lothlorien and Rivendell to venture into the Greewnood. Glorfindel and Elrond head up the party but a warning sung to them by the bard of the village by the lake only adds to their sense of unease at the venture. When something leaps from the trees at Haldir and the archers of Lothlorien react, it can only lead to bad news, especially when they have to tell Thranduil what has come to pass."'The Elves of Mirkwood are not like their kin, they are less wise and more dangerous.' - But they are my favourite of all the beings of Middle-earth ever since I read the Hobbit as a child. I like that they are wild and dangerous and a bit silly and their magics are eerie and more like the mythical powers of the elves in our own folklore. Here is, therefore, a story about them and their prince - my stand out favourite from the LoTR - involving also Gandalf's hat and plot-relevant poetry. I hope you enjoy

Before Chloe had a chance to accelerate, the eighteen-wheeler came into contact with their rear bumper. At the last moment, feeling the overpowering force of the crash pushing her forward, Max reached out to rewind time. She pulled hard and fast, knowing she and Chloe were a split second away from death. For a moment, everything stopped. The bumper of the eighteen-wheeler, centimetres away from Max’s and Chloe’s backs. Shards of glass hanging mid-air. Chloe’s hand, frozen as she tried to reach for Max, to touch her, as the final act of her life. Max gripped Chloe’s outstretched hand tightly and kept pulling at the fabric of time. Then she felt she was falling.

A dozen white-feathered arrows with heads of bright steel pointed in the direction of Max and Chloe. Chloe, standing in front of Max, spread her arms, as if she was a dragon, able to shield others with her wings. And in Max’s eyes, she was. -

Avelen n'a ni souvenirs ni connaissance sur la forêt dans laquelle elle se réveille. Son premier contact avec les elfes de Lasgalen est une pointe de flèche menaçante et elle se révèle avoir un caractère de cochon mixé à une innocence d'apparence presque insolente, autant dire que c'est mal parti pour elle. Mais malgré cela quelque chose de particulier semble être enfoui en elle (au même endroit que son respect pour le roi des elfes, sûrement... ) et elle traverse les épreuves une à une pour tenter de comprendre et de se rappeler du but de sa venue en Terre du milieu.
