It had been shortsighted of Heaven not to warn the exorcists. Adam and his ilk had been sloppy, overly confident and wasteful. The first man hadn’t bothered to clean up after himself, allowing Hell to fill with the tools of his destruction over the years. But, for all of that, Lucifer had also been shortsighted: he’d never expected one of his subjects–let alone three of them–to raise those very weapons against him.
You idiot. Lucifer let his eyes roll closed. He huffed softly. You deserve this.

Sam wants to hate Lucifer, but this broken thing in the dungeon is nothing like the Lucifer he remembers. And as more details come to light, the hunter finds himself re-evaluating everything he's ever known about the fallen archangel.
