Summary
Marie was born, and her biological mother died, but she was taken in by a courtesan. That did not work out, and she was then adopted by a doctor. She does her best to look less appealing by binding her chest, slouching, and adding freckles. She still gets kidnapped and now works at the rear palace. She is doing her best to look unappealing. So she does not end up catching the gaze of the Emperor. Too bad for her that he does, and so do consorts, eunuchs, and various others. They all want her to be their Apothecary.
