“I can see that,” Balthazar said. He set his glasses on top of the book at his side.
His apprentice staggered forward with the grace of a newborn deer but the confidence of a drunk sailor. “My thesis was defended and approved. The party has been thrown. And I am, finally, a free man.”
“Congratulations. I’m very proud,” Balthazar rasped. His voice was deep but amused.
That seemed to brighten Dave’s smile even more. “You know, I like it when you say stuff like that.”

Dave drunkenly confesses to Balthazar and probably starts something very heated...
