Jean lies awake at night, plagued by nightmares & a guilty conscious, wondering what truly lies ahead for him in the future. Eren's off-hand comment about Wall Rose having been deep inside the walls just a few short years ago rang in his head, causing an unfair amount of reflection & thinking about a topic Jean was trying to avoid. He'd been doubting himself, his whole reasoning for becoming a soldier in the first place, & it gets to be too much on a lonely night.
Though he tries his hardest to keep from waking Marco, the other boy still ends up in his bed to comfort him. Jean confides in Marco, reluctantly sharing his desire to curb his nightmares like he used to as a kid, by crawling into his mother's bed. Marco offers to be there for Jean & Jean takes it as a broad statement, reciprocating the words, albeit a bit awkwardly. A few misunderstandings later, & Jean finally ends up getting the restful sleep he so desperately needs. Plus a bit more.
I'm awful at summaries. The work is better than this, I promise.
