While creating the newest rival clone to defeat Sonic once and for all, Robotnik's base was destroyed by the blue hedgehog whom was unaware of the disaster that was to come; and now an unfinished Sonic replica was roaming free and a Grey plague was consuming the world.

Shadow exhaled slowly. Masking everything he was afraid Sonic could see in him. He was good at that. “I didn’t come back for you.”
Sonic’s voice was low. Defeated. Resigned to some extent. “Yeah. I got that.”

Stifling, that's what it was. The sun shone down on us, and our sparring session left us sprawled on the grass. I turned to look at the hero beside me
“How is it that you're never scared?”
I had always wondered, but surely it had to be overconfidence, right? I had to know-
“It's just a hero's job, y’know?” he beamed at me as he uttered such nonsense, dripping with confidence.
Right, he's overconfident. No matter though, he had always said we’d win no matter what, maybe it was because we had the protection of silver watching over us to correct any deaths that were not written in the stars. Or perhaps he's just that good? I'll still remind him that losing is still a possibility, though, to keep him in check, just so he can prove me wrong every time.
Except for once..I was right, that's exactly what had happened, we lost, Sonic drowned. Well, just about. I saw the tan arms that waved just barely above the water, seeing those arms disappear under the blue depths was like a wave of dread I have not felt since..

“I only have one guess which is that, somehow, you and Shadow’s mental consciousness are becoming linked. I suppose I can’t confirm it, but it might be good to ask him if he’s had any odd dreams as well. Or, doing a little experiment where you sleep in close proximity.”
