Summary
Messmer is staring where he shouldn’t. The color of the Tarnished's eyes hardly mattered.
Not compared to where they were directing their blade.
But he keeps noticing other things. How their skin was like gold when he cornered them against the wall and the candles sat right above them. How they were eerily quiet, even when being killed in the most violent of ways.
It was infuriating.

Messmer had asked his consort to stay with him, to abandon their ambitions, but he had not asked them to stay in the Shadow Keep, never leaving, until the end of days.
Perhaps he should have, as now that they are gone, and the hours continue to pass, loneliness sneaks up like an assassin and drives its terrible dagger into his heart and twists.

“Welcome back, my beloved God-Slayer.” Messmer whispers into Eyrie’s neck, slipping his arms around their waist and lifting them with ease until they are pulled flush into a tight embrace, his face going right to the warm curve of their neck.
They were no God, or Demi-God themselves, nor an Empyrean, but they were no mere Tarnished anymore.
That, he is certain of.
