Summary
Excerpt:
"Shikhandini, in Vyasa’s Mahabharta, was born to king Drupada. King Drupada was upset that he was blessed with a baby girl, and not a son to take over his reign, so he decides to bring her up as a man. He hides from the world that his child is a girl. She is renamed Shikhandi and is educated in warfare. Shikhandi only knew to live as a man in society even if they had a woman’s body. When king Drupada finds a bride for Shikhandi the bride realizes, on her wedding night, that she was married to a woman. Shikhandi’s/Shikhandini’s wife on discovering that her husband was in fact a woman refuses to stay married. Meanwhile, Shikhandini’s/Shikandi’s sorrow leads her/him to seek the help of a Yaksha."
