The trouble with having a son whose primary existence was a beautiful blur of hyper-velocity was that Erik Lehnsherr, the Master of Magnetism, was constantly subjected to the micro-joys of domestic chaos.
For Erik, who had spent decades meticulously controlling every piece of metal on the planet to protect his own bruised heart, Peter was the only thing he couldn't contain, and simultaneously, the only thing he desperately wanted to keep close. Peter was a kinetic mess, an electrical storm, but he was his.
They were residing in a converted research hangar—concrete walls, steel-reinforced everything, chosen by Erik for its sheer remoteness. He had configured the magnetic fields around the structure to be perfectly stable, a pocket of peace in a turbulent world.

Summary
Erik hates to admit it but he's absolutely, undoubtedly, gravely terrified of death. Specifically death of people he loves, which he had experienced too many times.
When everyone in the mansion falls ill Erik finds himself back in the years he spent in ghetto or concentration camp. Years full of epidemics, deaths caused by sicknesses, full of lost and fear. So many died back then, and he knew that those deaths could be prevented if they had basic resources like food and medicine. He has them now. He's going to prevent another deaths.
Everyone is sick and Erik's fear - an unnecessary one, he tells himself, but it's still there - is driving him crazy. Charles is trying to stop this process (and save Erik from a heart attack, which will surely happen if he keeps stressing like this).
