Baldur's Gate has some peculiar laws surrounding humanoid creatures and their rights. It's something that has never sat right with Gale but he's never been in a position to do anything about it. He's Gale of Waterdeep, not Baldur's Gate, he has no sway there. But moving there has opened up a new avenue for him. Even if he can't change the whole legal system, he can at least help one unlucky person at a time. Definitely. Probably. Maybe. He hopes so anyway. And he'll start with the one who has been at the centre for the longest time and needs him the most.

“Yep, it’s dead.” Nathraktel wedged his boot under the side of the dead deep gnome, lifting up a few inches before letting its dead weight thud unceremoniously back down to the ground.
“Gods damn it all–what did I tell you when we left?! Do none of you have ears??!”
It was relatively recently before their departure that Astarion had made the rule that there was to be no more thoughtless slaughter of gnomes. And, as they could see now, it wasn’t exactly a rule that was followed diligently.
OR
Astarion and Nathraktel come back after Withers' party and they indeed find another gnome killed, much to Astarion's displeasure.
I haven't written fanfic in nearly a decade, constructive criticism is very much appreciated!! I want to get better at this! I have so many ideas and if I don't get them out I will combust.

This maintains the majority of the Ascended Astarion portion of the Astarion Rewrite. In this rewrite, I re-framed the forced narrative that left a message that doesn't make sense of what Astarion's actor had portrayed his character to be. I properly explained his personality change and his operatic persona that people often fail to understand. In my opinion, this rewrite should've been what his story should've been in the game and for the fans of Ascended Astarion, I recommend ignoring the awful writing that's present of him in place of this rewrite. In my mind, this is the true cannon story, not the unprofessional work that's shown in the game that should've been changed. The Ascended Astarion fans should follow with this story as the true cannon and reject what's been shown in the game. Part 7 of the Astarion Rewrite.
