For no good reason, the prophecy crossed Susie’s mind. Not the end of it, which made her sad and angry, but mostly determined. No, she thought about a part way before that. Love finds its way to the girl.
She was on a truthful streak here. She spoke, and Noelle listened. She was accused, and Noelle defended her. And, hell, she actually did the fucking thing she was being accused of! But Noelle thought the suggestion was absurd, in her own words. And before all that, Noelle noticed when Susie hardly spoke to her at school.
Susie’s thing was still really fucking silly. But Noelle shared her own silly thing without hesitation. So above all, Susie thought, this choice was a matter of fairness.

“Hey?! Did you hear me?! I said-!”
They stepped forward.
Susie flinched. She hated to admit it, but despite her tough demeanor, she was a little scared. Not because she wasn’t confident in her own ability to defend herself against an attacker, she could deal with those just fine. But something about the figure, their silence, it unnerved her more than she was willing to let on.
“H-Hey! What are you-”
They stepped forward again, their movements almost zombie-like.
“G-Get back! I’m warning you! You don’t know what I’m capable of. I’ve slain a giant ya know!” If she had any common sense in that moment, she would’ve realized how ludicrous a statement like that sounded to anyone that wasn’t her.
Another step. It was so loud, louder than the rain, louder than her own heartbeat. She held her breath, bracing herself as the figure stepped into the light, revealing themselves to be none other than…
“...Kris?”

Noelle yelped, not realizing how loud she screamed which caused her to cover her mouth. Susie was trying to remove the white dog that was somehow on her back. Susie turned fast almost falling when she heard her name. She looked up and saw Noelle that looked... Well, she looked horrified either because she saw Susie or the dog that was about to chew Susie's leg.

Susie chucks the dog off her as it ran into the forest.

“Go on.” Susie dropped her head such that Kris’ chin was in the crook of her neck. “Still think I’m the weird one?”
No thoughts crossed their brain. Just TV static. And they broke like silver church glass, relenting under Susie’s grasp effortlessly. Their back foot, not bearing weight, stabilized them, their hands balled into fists so tight they shook. They closed their eyes and breathed in deep, hard and fast enough that the violet strands of Susie’s hair lifted towards their nose. Sweat, dew, smoke, cheap shampoo. Harsh words, soft and guiding gestures, the cake in Ralsei’s castle and the pie in Kris’ home.
“Yeah?” Susie said breathlessly.
“Smells…” Kris’ voice was small, scared, hopeful, everything they felt all at once. “Smells like home.”
“Gay.”
“Mhm.”
Prophecy be damned. Ralsei’s tears be damned. Noelle be damned, Undyne be damned, if the whole world both light and dark be damned, then please, Kris begged an unhearing and uncaring universe silently, if I can choose just one thing on my own, please, please let it be her.

Kris threw their phone onto the floor forcefully. Even in the dark, you could see the large crack it had made on the screen.
The loud music and voices outside had drowned out the noise it made when it hit the ground. But you heard it.
Kris stared at it for a moment, before rolling onto their stomach again and slamming their pillow over their head. They shook from how hard they were gripping it. Their knuckles paled.
You thought you heard them scream into their mattress.

Their hand reaching for Noelle’s. Shaking. Trying to plead run with every single part of them. They weren’t fast enough. Because then It was there and Its words were thorns stabbing their cheeks, Noelle was terrified, Noelle was freezing, please not her hurt me do anything to me leave her alone leave her alone, but they couldn’t even scream by then. Just begging. Rolling over to It. I’ll be good. I’ll be so good. Just please don’t hurt her.

Like stars caught in mutual orbit, their paths never truly diverged, only curved gently toward their inevitable collision.
He loved them with the humble certainty of someone who always had.
It wasn’t as though he hadn’t prepared for this. He had always known he was meant to meet them, had held the thought like a lantern as he envisioned their arrival in every imaginable light. But no amount of speculation could compare to reality, an anomaly proving itself time and time again to be infinitely more wondrous.
