Summary
Going to kneel before Podrick, she felt his forehead with her palm. The whole of her hand fit over the boy’s brow with room still for her fingers to follow around the curve of his head. So small, she thought. Pain lanced through her as real as any sword. If his fever did not break soon, she knew her squire would not live to the end of the week.
She looked up into the canopy of trees. Beyond them, the sky was darkening. A weak trail of smoke drifted up from their fire and disappeared beyond the silvery boughs.
Once, she had thought honor a simple thing, as simple as truth. But those were just words. Real living was choosing, was harder. Ser Jaime had tried to tell her that, perhaps.

Summary
After the Battle for the Seven Kingdoms, Jaime Lannister sailed east, hoping to find peace and some manner of freedom from his past sins. Now, ten years later, he finds himself once more in Westeros, on the shores of Tarth, looking for absolution from the one person he couldn’t leave behind.
A story of second chances, the healing powers of communication, compassion, forgiveness, and love.
--
Brienne is exactly as he remembers and very different. She’s just as tall and broad and homely, but she’s softened around the edges. Then again, regular meals and peacetime will do that. The only evidence of her reaction to him is a slight pause in her stride across the courtyard.
“Ser Jaime,” she greets him with a nod.
“Ser Brienne.” He bows deeply. “Or would my lady be more appropriate?”
“Ser will do between us.”
Seeing her is more than he imagined and he imagined it being quite overwhelming.

I thought her so true and her eyes filled with such innocence, but she lied to me to bring me to my death. There was no feeling there, nothing honest. Just lies.
Only ever lies.

Summary
Jaime Lannister should have returned to King's Landing weeks and weeks ago. Instead he brought an injured Brienne to the Quiet Isle and somehow ended up married to her. Now he's riding for the Vale with a strange assortment of companions on an impossible search for Sansa Stark, and Brienne won't even look at him anymore, and why does that bother him so much? Why is he even here? He should just go home. He'll do it any day now.

Arguably the best and nearest to canon a love telling set in Winds of Winter. The tone is right, the mutual despair and angsting is right, poor Podrick being upset by his surrogate parents' awful miscommunications is RIGHT. Sansa surmising the truth of things within two meetings with the pair is RIGHT (she is legitimately clever, in the books, despite being told otherwise).
The only things missing, things I suspect would happen first, are,
1)Jaime's FIRST knighting Brienne and all-the-while thinking the ceremony to be the only Wedding he, a Kingsguard, will ever have - the position is for LIFE, after all, and only a Barristan-esque dismissal would grant book!Jaime to forgive himself for leaving the order. It is unlikely that Cersei would entertain allowing Jaime to be [freed of her]/out of her control anytime soon, so it would take proof of his death or Faith Millitant Shenanigans for Jaime to survive leaving the kingsguard.
2) Brienne taking Jaime under HER protection and colours to protect him - cloaking him in rose and blue, suns and moons. Jaime likes his lady in blue and has avoided his rights to Casterly Rock all his life: it's foreshadowed that becoming a Leader/Lord, Husband, &/or Father is how his post-unhanding Identity Crisis will resolve itself. He's doomed to survive the loss of his knighthood and face the duties he abandoned through swearing himself to Cersei.
ANYWAY, META AND LITERARY THEMES ASIDE, this is a GREAT read and very heartwarming given the immediate circumstances.

Summary
Jaime Lannister knew how men spoke of him, that kingslayer did not cover the worst of it by far. He had come to accept such a reputation long ago, had made use of it when he could. His sword hand now gone, that lingering charade was oftentimes all he had.
So perhaps he had been nothing but a sword hand, as he had once despaired in the Riverlands. Certainly, he had never possessed his brother’s fondness for books, nor his father’s political ambitions. That said, Jaime had never thought himself a fool.
Brienne of Tarth, damn her, had changed that.
