Summary
“So… he really is the Merlin?” Tony asked before Sherlock could continue.
Sherlock rolled his eyes. “Yes, Stark. Do keep up.”
“But he’s your brother?” Sam frowned.
The sigh that left Sherlock was long and exasperated. “He’s adopted, obviously. It took me a moment to realize it myself, so I don’t blame your simpler minds for the delay.” He clasped his hands behind his back, pacing slowly. “But once you know the facts, it’s quite simple. How do you best hide as an immortal man?” He pauses and then sighs, like he’s disappointed in them. “By not being one.”OR: Merlin waited centuries for Arthur’s return. But when the time finally comes, he realizes he isn’t ready. Dragged into a crisis by a brother he believes hates him, Merlin is left scrambling for steady ground and his memories aren’t what they used to be.

Summary
The monster beneath Arthur’s skin is all he can see as the charcoal cottage burns. The flames lash at the softly frosted ground between them. Llamrei’s hooves tear through the ground as she frights in face of the flames.
As Arthur watches his execution, all Merlin can know is that he would be willing to cast Merlin to the fate as he did. He has. He has burned the man Merlin has presented him with. He watches his King, and he kneels to his judgement. He drowns as his alter burns.- A finger on the pulse of Arthur and Merlin's later relationship with magic -

Summary
"Did you really know the king when he was young?"
The village children beg for stories of Arthur Pendragon—of the warrior, the legend, the king. Merlin could give them the polished tales sung in taverns, or the easy jabs at Arthur’s pride. But when a wide-eyed boy whispers, "I want to be a knight like him," the truth comes unbidden: of the arrogant prince who grew into a man worth following, not because of destiny, but because of choice.
Later, by dying firelight, Arthur asks a question that has haunted him since Morgana’s betrayal: "What if kindness in a king is just weakness?" Merlin’s answer is not the comfort of prophecy, but the harder, brighter truth of years spent watching Arthur try.
(Or: a quiet night, a shared wineskin, and all the things that go unsaid between two men who have never needed words to understand each other.)

Summary
"Leave it, Arthur," Merlin says, scrubbing his face dry with the cuff of his tunic. Half-shadowed, half-moonlit, the curl of his body seems fragile, but his tear-clogged voice is as fierce as ever. "I know what you’re going to say and I know you mean well but I don’t want to hear it, not now."
After the veil between worlds has been repaired, Arthur finds himself unequipped to deal with the emotional fallout from Lancelot's sacrifice - especially as it pertains to Merlin and Lancelot's relationship.
The one Arthur never knew about, and now can't stop thinking about.

Set Canon season 1 episode 1 -
Pinned against a stone wall by the hands of the prince of Camelot, Merlin second guessed his decision to save the prat's life.
OR.
Arthur sees Merlin use magic to stop the thrown knife from killing him.
He knows the law. He should tell his father. He should arrest Merlin.
But, he doesn’t. Instead, he allows Merlin to work for him on the proviso that he doesn’t use magic. Ever.
Except Arthur has questions he’s never been given answers to. And Merlin is – odd. He’s nothing like what Arthur’s been told a sorcerer is and he makes it all too easy for Arthur to drop his guard.
His father, his attendants and tutors, have taught him about the manipulations of witchcraft and sorcery and how they can twist a man into feeling empathy for the wicked.
The problem is that Merlin isn’t exactly what he’d call wicked. Arthur trusts his own instincts and they’re telling him very different things to what the king decreed. He vows to watch over his new manservant. The moment he commits treason, he’ll run a sword through him.
And in the meantime, maybe – just maybe – he’ll find out for himself if a man who turns to evil, can’t turn back.

Summary
“What in the seven hells was that?” Leon exclaimed. Arthur watched Percival with a steady gaze.
“Growing up we called them Face Thieves,” said Percival with a grimace. “Awful creatures that take the form of the dead to steal the souls of the living. Face Thieves often target people that they can sense the most grief and sorrow in. It makes for easy prey.”
-
What was meant to be a simple quest to retrieve the ring of dispel turns sinister as Arthur, Merlin, and the knights venture deep into the Caves of Crasmere where they are hunted by spirits intent on stealing their souls.

In hindsight, Arthur probably should have known something was wrong when Merlin didn’t argue about Arthur assigning him to muck out the stables.
He supposed that was the first sign.

Summary
Ever see the Descendants movie trilogy? Well, this is essentially a re-skin of Mal and Prince Ben but make it Merthur. Don't ask me what in the 2015 possessed me. I am not sure.
Canon divergent off of the episode Sweet Dreams. Tells a what if scenario of Arthur's love spell backfiring and making him fall in love with Merlin. Original, I know.
Hopefully, it's as toothrottingly sweet as the relationship between Prince Ben and Mal in that first movie, because DAMN did some of their dialogue have me in a chokehold. Had the time of my life taking Ben's words and "Arthur-ing" them.

Summary
The prince, Simon, had brought his own manservant. Yet he had still felt the need to ask for Merlin. It was ridiculous. Now Arthur had to have Gwen bring him food and clean his chambers. Granted, she did a nicer job of it, but it wasn't the same.
“Now, eat your lunch. You have meetings later.”
Sometimes, Arthur felt that Gwen spoke to him as if he were a child. He scowled at her as she walked out.

Summary
On October 31, 1981, Lord Voldemort was vanquished on the second floor of a cottage in Godric’s Hollow. Lily and James Potter lay dead protecting their only son, and the young Harry Potter, his scar still sluggishly bleeding was whisked away from the wreckage of his home and onto the doorstep of Number 4 Privet Drive. While wizards across England shouted from rooftops that the Dark Lord had fallen, an imbalance within magic created from a perversion of the old religion deepened.
And two children, seemingly unconnected, began to cry.

Watching the boat drift further across the lake, knowing Freya was aboard underneath the ferns and flowers, Merlin wanted nothing more than to sink with her. He humours the thought for a while, taking a small step closer to the water’s edge- and then he raises a hand with a mutter and the boat catches aflame. The wood and dry leaves catch quickly.
He waits until the last of the flames die before turning on his heel for the laborious journey back to Camelot.

Summary
Gwen and Arthur, having begun to get used to their marriage of convenience, lay in bed in the late hours of the night, talking. Their conversation turns to what Gwen might wish her life had looked like instead, which reminds Arthur of his jealousy of her from the past.
