“What are they doing?” Tom asked with a huffing smile. “I was so sure that Sonic would be here already.”
Maddie bit her lip and turned away, her hand pulling away from his hair to curl into a fist on her lap. That immediately put Tom on edge and he pushed himself to sitting up even as his ribs protested. Tom reached out to place his hand over Maddie’s.
“What happened to Sonic?” Tom demanded.
