An hour later, while working their way through Chinese takeout, Alex regretted the "raccoons" wisecrack. The problem wasn't Lizzie, nor Steve, or even Patty, who were all making small talk with Bobby about his trivia competition, but the family trivia aficionado's silence. Jack's face was growing more stormy by the moment, to the point where she and Bobby were exchanging troubled glances. He finally laid his chopsticks down and asked mildly, "Jack, before this meal goes any further, can we let the elephant in the room out for air?"
Jack didn't bother equivocating. "You were both reinstated after she quit because of you. So why did you leave again?"
Directly follows "Gifted"--There's still some unfinished business with Alex's family, and what happens when you let your friends plan your wedding... (While this story has its serious moments, it was originally intended to be humorous.)

But a positive ID only leads to more mysteries about a woman who kept a lot of secrets. Jack McCoy will need every legal trick in the book to find out the truth, but the case is complicated by an old antagonist, whose ruthless tactics in defense of his client will put more than the prosecution at risk. McCoy will have to pull out all the stops to make sure that all relevant evidence comes to light.

Since when did judges actually declare a freely given confession admissible in court anyway?
